Eliaquim Mangala - 2017/18 performances

He doesn't fit into Pep's system. Fuck. I guess this mean there is no chance for Tosin to stay. Guess a loan would be best anyway.

We are 5 CBs deep with one of the most injury prone CBs in the last 3 years, Tosin probably stays since theres plenty of cup games for him to play in and the potential for spot PL apps.

I agree about the confidence thing. Which is why he needs to be playing for a manager who believes in him and will play him regularly.
I'm not sure that's in his or our best interest to be honest. He hasn't had the best last few years and there doesn't seem to be a great number of clubs knocking on the door. I had similar issues as an athlete to what he does. Being down the pecking order but assured a place might take some of the pressure off him for a while and give him a chance to learn and prove himself in training. No doubt he'll need pt eventually but I think he'll get that. I'm not sure how pep is with the players tbh but the right man management could, in my mind, turn mangala into a valuable asset. with no other great offers, I think mangala would prefer to stay as well. Win some silverware, learn from the best, hopefully get some exposure if nothing else. Idk it will be interesting to see how it plays out if he does end up staying. You never know.

Indeed, nothing to be happy about. Mangala doesn't fit Pep's concepts at all and will be out next summer anyway. Hopefully, with Otamendi. Seems like we haven't any budget left for a good CB.
Gibson? If we really plan to stick to 3ATB, LCB should have fullback qualities, i.e. be very mobile and explosive. Gibson looks very slow from small bits that I've seen from him.
Mobile and explosive, you mean like mangala? Who feature at LB a decent amount at Porto. Doesn't fit peps concepts... he's actually pretty decent with the ball. Probably has the best long ball in him out of any of our current cbs. Mistake prone, yes. Maybe not the WC perfect fit pep wants long term. But he can contribute and that's the main reason he will be staying, if he does stay.

Mangala is pretty poor with the ball while Guardiola uses defenders as playmakers. He simply doesn't have the needed skillset.

doesnt have the composure. Does have the skill set. You can't teach calm. But he has just as much of the "needed skill set" as boateng or kompany. Just much more of a liability with his mental lapses

I find that a bit of a myth tbh. He's not half as bad as some make out. I think it'd be good if he stayed: he might not be first choice, but he'll definitely improve under Pep, whether we keep him or sell him.
The only issue I have at CB is that you'd ideally want someone offering competition to Kompany, Stones and Otamendi
Also one of the best debuts I've seen

He quite clearly doesn't and most likely never will. That is a ridiculous comment.

If he stays then I hope I'm wrong, he's always seemed to have a great attitude and I'm sure he could put in a decent performance or two against the likes of Lukaku. However, forgetting his defensive and positional lapses in concentration, he is absolutely awful on the ball and comparing him to Kompany and Boateng in that regard should be enough to get you sectioned.

haha kompany is no better on the ball you muppet. in terms of dribbling or ball control? not at all. mangala just shits the bed more often. and definitely has a much better long ball in him. watch closer. composure and awareness he lacks. not easily taught but we will see . confidence + pep & you might be surprised

Yeah, yeah I've been reading all that bollocks on here for years. If you want to ignore the mental aspect of the sport then go right ahead but that's daft as fuck. Yes, in terms of dribbling and ball control, Kompany (not to mention Boateng) is light years ahead of him and his mentality is the reason for that. Managala's ball control and dribbling is awful for precisely the same reason.

dude i've played the sport at a decent level. academy level in the states. i know the mental aspect is a huge part of the game, especially at cb. part of the reason i defend him so much is bc i was a very similar type of player. he's raw as fuck but the man does not lack the talent. His ball control and dribbling really is not poor at all. watch some highlights of him. he can make people miss and goes on some surprising runs. composure kills him and yes, for that reason it will always be difficult for him. but we will see. i'll definitely be rooting for him if he stays
