Benatia vs Mangala

Benatia the better defender as in tackling(even better than Vinny), intercepting, positioning

Mangala is a beast in the air, quicker, can play LB, younger

Both are aggressive cbs, both are strong, both are goal threats

Mangala like Kompany and Demichelis likes to bring the ball into midfield and look for a pass and therefore caught out of position more(but has that awesome recovery pace). Benatia is more disciplined in this respect

I'd be very happy with either one of them, but if I had to chose one, it'd be Mangala
No AFCON, Left footed and sided, so no position change for Kompany, who didn't look as good in that position vs Argentina as he does on the right.

Well its certainly not been a knee jerk signing if all goes through ok. We can trust in the fact we've looked very long and hard at him.

I agree mate.....They've been watching this kid for the past 12months, so know what they are getting and must feel confident in this guy, to hold on so long to get the deal done.....I do think we would have been getting Benatia in his prime and would be solid from day one, where Mangala has a bigger upside but is young and might have a few mistakes in him....He is quicker than Benatia so can fill the gaps a lot faster and fits our system perfectly....Once this is confirmed I think it could be our last major signing of this window....

There were also a good deal of other clubs after him, which usually tells you something. Not conclusive by any stretch but it hasn't just been Txiki on his case.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

I don't know enough about either of them to have a view. He was the No 1 target though so I guess it's good news.
Only time will tell. I didn't like his comments about preferring to play in London but I guess that's par for the course
with foreign players.

The new Distin !

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Excellent signing, Kompany may need to keep him well-marshaled for the first season or so but he'll be a brick shithouse in our defence for the next decade.

I will admit I haven't seen that much of him, but from what I have seen and read, he's not the complete package yet. Far from it. Benatia, on the other hand, I've seen plenty and he was the one I was hoping for all along. Hope Mangala and Txiki will prove me wrong, but right now I'm not overly excited by this signing.

I saw a bit of him last season and wasn't impressed, but apparently it universally acknowledged that his form dipped last season, for what reason I don't know.

Where I became concerned is when a person whom I trust his judgement and has seen a lot of Mangala expressed shock that we were in for him and even more shock at the price Porto wanted.

He said, physically he's a beast, but is very prone to make costly mistakes and still very raw as a talent. I immediately thought of Micah Richards, but the fella was sincere when he said all this. However, Txiki has made some brilliant acquisitions and had some howlers like most people involved in the transfer of football players, at the quoted £32m I just hope this isn't one of them.

Txiki will have analysed Mangala to fuck and if he strongly believes that he's the player we need, I'll trust his judgement and I'll get behind the player irrespective of my reservations.

Fair play to your consistent stance that we were signing him.
