I suspect that everything's agreed except the third party stuff. City will need to buy out the whole ownership of the player due to EPL rules (I think, correct me if I'm wrong) so they probably want more money, but our hands are tied because of FFP. Given how long this has dragged it looks to me like it's a stalemate and it could run until the end of the transfer window. Not ideal.

The third party stuff was sorted weeks ago and we are buying100% off Porto. Mangala is ours. Once both clubs have agreed their other incomings (Porto), outgoings (Us), both clubs will announce.

You've been confident about this for a while mate!;)......completely respect that.........Don't know of many teams that would not confirm a "done deal" almost a month after a player signing but you know a lot more than I do!;)

PSG with David Luiz and Chelsea with Costa.

Luiz was 100% Chelsea owned - 3rd party not allowed in the PL, Don't know about Costa but he was playing in Spain where there are different rules about ownership to Portugal I think.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

The "Inside City" video looked pretty conclusive when allied to Soriano's statement that our business will be concluded when we bring in a CB. There's been no gossip for weeks and the club seem very relaxed about things. But when does it become a done deal in the club's eyes....

At the end of the day, the player belongs to the club which owns his registration. As it stands right now, who owns Mangala's registration?

cant argue with that mate!;) He's still a porto player as of this minute!.......August 4th seems to be the day we're expecting news!...fingers crossed!

And the fact that the video got pulled makes it puzzling. When it's Pellegrini's aim to bed a player in early, the way this transfer is being allowed to drag on and on, and in silence while the season rapidly nears, it isn't any wonder that fans are wondering what the hell is going on?

Only some fans ;)

Some of us are chilled about it.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

I still hope we start the season with Kompany and Demichelis as our first choice centre backs. They were on fire as a partnership in the second half of last season and we have some big games coming up in the first 6 weeks. We can't afford to start this season as we did last, dropping silly points. My fear is he will come in, and because of his big price tag he will be installed into the first team immediately. He should be bedded in.

That's the problem. A central defender needs a lot of time to bed-in. if we do sign him, it'll be another Demichelis situation where it'll take half a season before he's playing well.

Big blow to miss pre-season, and anyone who thinks we're deliberately not completing the deal completely underestimates the importance of preparation. Pellegrini would have wanted the player in before the tour.
