Not sure Nastasic will ever have the speed or ball-control to play our system.

Eh? I thought Nasty had decent ball control and ability to pass from the back, moreover for a CB he's pretty fast, certainly as fast as Kompany. The problem is his game isn't based on our more swashbuckling approach this season but considering his age he'll adapt and become great again.

He's got a bit of pace but to say he's as fast as Kompany bloody hell. Kompany is actually rapid

Don't think you can compare Nastasic's pace with Kompany - However in Nasty I remember a young CB who looked very calm and assured on the ball - Things haven't worked out for him this season, people shouldn't be righting him off though, not adjusted yet to the new style and injuries have messed up his season ....

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

If Txiki can get him and Fernando for 40 million then that's pretty damn good business, especially from Porto.

Not at all, Fernando shouldn't renenw his contract so we can get him for free this summer.

While we're using the time machine, maybe we should get Messi of Newell's?

But if Fernando didn't renew and we got him on a pre-contract I doubt Porto would want do business with us for Mangala who's the more essential transfer target.

It doesn't work this way, otherwise no club will get a player for free.

We make Porto happy by offering the highest bid for Mangala not buy allowing them to renew his contract and lose the opportunity to sign him for free.

Look at Juventus, they got Pogba and Loriente without caring about upsetting United or Bilbao, and there are many other clubs who sign players for free without having making other clubs happy.

and do you think Bilbao will ever sell anything to Juve ever again? not likely. The difference is we want more than one player off Porto, so keeping a good relation is important. Falling out with other teams chairman is hugely counter productive for a buying club, especially a club like Porto, who we will inevitably be doing business with again at some point.

This is correct, the zuculini deal for example we could have got him for free but from what I hear we agreed to sign him and pay their price, then let him go back to them till when his contract would have ran out. If a team gets a lot of good players like Porto or most South American team you want a good relationship with them.

Re: Eliaquim Mangala

Ticks every box that it seems Txiki/Pellegrini are looking for in a central defender.

No harm in him being so similar to Kompany, he will learn alot from him and those around him.

I can't see many if any other defenders out there that tick as many boxes that Mangala does so I can see this deal being done almost irrelevant of the price to a certain extent.

Sometimes you just have to pay whatever it will cost to get the right player rather than "making do" with someone else. It can make all the difference especially in the CL etc.
