Elliot Anderson | Opening bid rejected (p189)

People underestimate how good this transfer will be for us.
Anderson plays better in big matches and no doubt he would have more of these with City than with Forest. I think he is better player than Rice who I believe was well over priced. I have a figure in mind which I think Anderson is worth & I'm interested to get City fans views what figure they maybe prepared to pay for him.

We've been burned before going off a 1 season wonder performance where Kalvin peaked and we gave him a huge contract.

It does make sense to exercise caution and assess if the player can be that level sustainably or has possibly peaked.

But that's mostly Viana's job right??

Anderson played a huge part in getting Forest into Europe last season and is pretty much carrying them this season.

Phillips joined City at the age of 26, having played 2 PL season where he played 29 times in 20/21 and just 20 times in an injury hit 21/22 season.

Anderson is 23, played 37 PL games last season and 32 so far this season. And he's still improving. Pretty sure Phillips never had a season as good as either of these.

Nonsense my backside. You can assume whatever you want. Bernardo's jersey happens to be the only City one I own with a name on it, and I have quite a few jerseys. Along with Rodri and YaYa he's my all-time City favorite player. That's not the point. If you actually think Bernardo right now can do more on the pitch than Anderson you are in fantasy land. I'm not going back and forth on this because it's too silly...
Jerseys? What, like Lyle & Scott or Pringle jerseys?

Based on your stats I am a realist and believe Anderson should go for 65m with 10m in add ons based on appearances and trophies which I'm sure he would help you win. This still gives us a profit of around 40m on his transfer. I am not to keen on the players being mentioned as possible part of any deal. If we stay up I would possibly like having Marmoush on loan with an option to buy but not sure he would come and no way could we afford is 300k per week.

£55 million?

His worth as a squad player and what he cost forest would be around £50m with potential add ons can't see us going higher than that and I'd imagine forest will be in need of funds this summer.

I would expect the cost for Anderson will be around the £75m mark. That assumes Forest stay up and there is no release clause. Probably worth £55m but will be an English tax and other bidders ( definitely united) that will push it to £75m.

He’s had two pretty good seasons for Forest.

I think 60m with some achievable add ons.

When you're signing a player, it's not just about ability - you've got to look at the person too. Anderson doesn't strike me as someone where the talent is there but the application can be inconsistent. He comes across as grounded, hard-working and genuinely driven to improve and become the best version of himself.

Week in, week out his work rate really stands out. He plays like a complete midfielder, and the kind you associate with players like Gerrard or De Bruyne. There's that same mix of aggression, energy and quality. He's got the power to drive forward, the range to switch play and the mentality to inspire those around him. I really see him as a future captain figure - as I do Guehi.

What really stands out is how much ground he covers, as it's like having two midfielders in one at times. Over a full season, that kind of consistency and effort always shows in the numbers, but even just watching him, you can see the impact. For Forest, he often looks like their standout player.

That pass against Brentford earlier in the season was top level, the kind of thing you'd expect from De Bruyne at his best.

He feels like exactly the type of player you build a successful team around and someone with the mentality, determination and work ethic to raise standards at this Football Club going forwards. If he keeps developing the way he is, there's every chance he could go on to surpass someone like Declan Rice over time. Has the same attitude as Rice (which is an amazing characteristic), but he has more technical ability in my opinion.

He has to be the number 1 target this summer. If we missed out on him and United got him, I'd be pretty annoyed to say the least.

Yep, agree with all that.

You are right about his attitude I've been lucky to speak to him on couple of occasions during his 2 seasons with us. He very much wants to improve and I think his eyes are on the blue half of Manchester. I not sure but if I remember rightly in the last England team photo against Japan he was on the front row with O Reilly on one side of him and Foden and Guehi on the other side of him.
