Elon Musk buys and ruins Twitter

This is going to be part of economics degrees in a few years time.

He's taken a reasonably profitable company worth about $8Bn, spent $44Bn on it, cost himself $150Bn, saddled it with unpayable debt, and then fired everyone who was responsible for it being a functional business and put it on the path to failure inside 2 weeks.

On Opening Arguments podscast today Andrew Torrez, who is pretty reliable, reported that a senior US government employee told him they're preparing for Twitter to not exist in a matter of weeks and finding new ways of making public announcements.

News articles are putting at the bottom of their articles "We reached out to twitter to get a response, we were told Twitter no longer has a PR team".

I think it could be really culturally significant. This worship of Billionaires that's sprouted up over the last 15 years could end with Musk buying one of the most visible companies in the world out of hubris and then destroying it, and probably taking out the source of his wealth with it.

He told employees yesterday that Twitter needed to be 50% subscription (ie 150m people on Twitter Blue) to have a chance of surviving.
It's madness. He can't make money advertising to 300m people with zero cost for content creation.

This is what happens when you go all in on right wing BS. There was not much wrong with twitter. But Musk was so convinced that it was all Liberal bias and manipulation. Talk about learning the hard way.

I’m hoping he buys Instagram next.

Then the dippers.

It’s fascinating.

What’s also interesting is seeing the amount of Elon simps struggling to work out why their genius messiah seems to suddenly be fallible.

His Dunning Kruger has cost him big time, can't be an expert at everything but he thinks he is.
