Elon Musk offers to buy Twitter

I genuinely don't understand how he's so rich. His value and the value of his companies seems to be entirely based on potential rather than actual profits. Obviously Paypal was a success when he sold it, but Tesla is supposedly the most valuable car company in the world, yet its assets, income and profits are all dwarfed by a company like Toyota or Ford. Obviously I get him being rich, but not one of the richest men in the world. Jeff Bezos and Bill Gates had to have pretty much half the planet using their product before they got that sort of money.

Oh goodness. The boring north-south stuff. Give it a rest. You sound like the people who grew up with on an estate and are still there.

Do we have regional Twitter?

You think rhere is something wrong with coming from a council estate then? And the people who come from or still live on estates ?

Why people like you get snobby about living in London l don't know. It's a shit tip.

Haha I am from an estate. The point I was making is that the people who make nonsensical north-south comments, especially when it is irrelevant, as you have done in two consecutive posts, are generally insular and have an inferiority complex. Now you think I will get upset because you don't like London.

You're childish, odd, a bore and you lack intelligence so on to the ignore list you go.

No loss at all

I'm all for the entrepreneurial spirit & reward ... but there must be something wrong when one person has control over something as widely used & pervasive as Twitter ? He can now affect what hundreds of millions of people read around the planet.

Isn't it also a little worrying that one person can afford to spend $44billion of his own money on one thing that he wants ?

I’ve said the same before. No way should Tesla be one of the most valuable companies in the world with a valuation of nearly a trillion. Every car company is making EVs now and their USP is disappearing fast. It’s down 25% from its peak but still way overvalued imo. But what the fuck do I know?

I think it's less to do with the car and more the data from self driving potential. They are so far ahead of everyone else their driving algo's will most likely become the standard.

There is seemingly lots of discussion about trans on Twitter, often involving celebrities. Personally, I don't engage with it. These discussions involve people from both sides of the debate. The issue is that people quickly turn to personal attacks and become offensive. That's not 'discussion'.
So what do you call your Tower Hamlets-centric
comments implying Mancunians who live in council estates are inferior to you living in that London?

Did you forget that's he's set you to ignore?
I know but I just throw a few scraps and the southern invertebrate will come out of his hole to review us inferior Northerners and reveal which estate he claims to come from. He seemed to have forgotten yesterday.
Manc my arse. Him not you.

He actually probably isn't that rich, he is the worlds richest man but that's based upon his shareholdings and not the cash he has in the bank. He isn't even paying for Twitter out of his own cash, he's probably paying with syndicated money from banks/investors who tie the risk to the value of his Tesla/SpaceX shares.

If anything goes wrong then he'll have to sell shares to raise cash, Tesla shares tanked a bit yesterday I think because of the risk of that happening. They'll be back up today though because everyone will be buying at the low opportunity, it's all just the market and has nothing to do with Tesla or SpaceX making money.

Income and profits are meaningless too when you consider the value of assets and intellectual property. Tesla is the first car company in the world to make its own EV batteries whereas all of the other car companies can't so they have to buy them. The problem when every car company is buying them is prices skyrocket and this is why EV's are so expensive but Tesla is immune to that. They can just increase prices to suit the market and the rest is easy profit.

Tesla is basically beyond the likes of Ford now but they're just far smaller. All they need to do is figure out how to scale up production to Ford levels. That's why the Tesla share price is mental whereas Ford's is sinking because at the end of the day why would you invest in Ford compared to Tesla? If you forget things like price then why would anyone even buy a Ford car over a Tesla?

If you didn’t know better it’s almost like he’s trying to get the deal stopped? The one things he’s not allowed to do is attack twitter or it’s employees publicly until the deal is closed and he immediate starts doing just that?!

(for the record @nycsouthpaw is not a simple country dog lawyer, he's a very highly educated lawyer and law blogger)
