Elon Musk

Indeed, but they don’t get reviewed by American reviewers like Edmunds. That is why there were no BYD or NIO vehicles in their “Best of…” lists. That was my point.
No worries, but a strange thing for him to post then to rebut my assertion that Tesla’s haven’t been the best EV’s for sometime.

Anyway, TSLA now at 215 in after hours. Down a whopping 56% since mid-December.

I don’t care how rich Musk is, that’s gotta hurt.

As a Model Y owner for a few years now, I’m very satisfied with the car, so I can’t speak to the quality and appeal of others.

Musk enjoyed the fruits of the Federal Govt’s $7,500 tax credit to sell cars, while developing the lowest cost manufacturing system and battery supply. Today, as Ford and GM come online (more GM than Ford), Musk is happy to see the credit disappear! That means, as the low cost producer, he has a built-in, govt paid for, cost advantage and can reap ever larger margins over similar domestic products. Fwiw, most of Tesla’s ability to survive in the early years was selling its carbon credits, not cars!

While loving the Y, my feelings about Musk have morphed from Asperger genius to racist Nazi megalomaniac. If I could walk away from the vehicle, I would, but I know I’d struggle to find the same size, space and quality for the price.

Money no object, I’d drive a Polestar or R1. Maybe the R2 will be my next iteration?

As for Musk’s money, it’s going to be all about his private stake in Space X that’ll make him real money! Plus, does $180Bn to 90Bn mean a damned thing, really?!

Today he called Mark Kelly a traitor for visiting Ukraine, claimed without evidence that Ukraine was leading the DOS attack on Twitter, lied about DOGE’s cost savings and claimed he’d stay on as a SGE for another year (even though the SGE charter does not allow for that) — all in one brief interview.

. . . or even a buyer at this rate :)

Hey, everyone I know who owns a Tesla is going through the same struggle. I don’t think anyone really holds it against innocent consumers. Musk’s transformation has been shocking and ugly to say the least.

When are you flying to my hometown, Cap’n?

TBH, if I could get a decent trade-in, I might do it, but we generally keep cars for at least a decade! I traded a 2008 for the 2023 Tesla and our other car is a 150,000 mile 2013 Chevy Volt! Will be replacing the Volt in the not too distant future. Would like a Plug-in Hybrid (RAV4 Prime?) or another EV, but may well settle for a “regular” hybrid because of the very large choice available.

This month is Chicago to Munich, Maui, Maui, Frankfurt, Frankfurt! Not being on a domestic fleet and not being based in SFO, I RARELY get through town. Was there a few months ago when Kamala dorked up the traffic, it rained like crazy, I stayed up on Nob Hill and hated the walk back to the hotel!! You’re lucky you don’t have snow and ice or else you wouldn’t be able to reach half the city!! ;-)

A) No San Franciscan would stay on Nob Hill. Last time I went up there I took a Waymo!

B) It hasn’t snowed with accumulations here (or there since I’m in NYC at the moment) since 1975. I was 10 and remember it like it was yesterday!

MAGA die-hards drive big Pick Up trucks in which they like to “roll coal” as opposed to driving an EV!

In his zeal to revert to his most basic nature, Musk seems to have forgotten he not only got wealthy on Govt subsidies, but the money he did make from Tesla mostly came from climate friendly liberals who eschew his current incarnation.
I'm not sure about that. As far as I can tell, the Tesla stock price has had very little to do with the actual number of cars he's sold and far more to do with this vague idea that it will become a dominant player some day.

It's not just about that, but another reason he's so keen to get involved in government is the self-driving cars. We're seeing it everywhere they appear in the US already, not just from Musk. They're not as good as the salesmen promised (who would've thought) and so they're in the process of attempting to change laws to basically suit the self-driving cars. Things like putting up railings to reduce the places pedestrians can cross, making it a crime to block ones path, and changing zoning regulations to allow these huge parking and charging facilities for them in key areas of the city, all for a method of transport that is way less efficient at moving people than trains or buses. But if you can get the politician's ear, then you can make sure these real public transport solutions never happen as he already tried to do by floating the hyperloop idea when a high speed train was proposed. It no doubt won't be long before they try to have self-driving only lanes installed.

The Rivian R2, coming next year and the R3 the year after are gonna take a decent chunk out of Tesla in the US. I know someone who works there and a good number of the preorders are current Tesla owners/ early adopters.

I stayed where they put me (InterContinental Mark Hopkins), and with the Marriott employees on strike, we would not cross the picket line at our usual hotel. However, I did Uber up the hill the second time!

I can only imagine being in a car sliding down one of those hills, forwards or backwards!
