Marton Fulop has told skysports.com that he would be honoured to sign for Manchester City.
Roberto Mancini's side have lost Shay Given for the rest of the season after he dislocated his shoulder during the weekend draw with Arsenal.
City number two Stuart Taylor is also sidelined through injury, as is fourth choice David Gonzalez.
That only leaves number three Gunnar Nielsen available to City, and they have made a request to the Premier League to sign a goalkeeper on an emergency loan.
They may also try and bring back Joe Hart from his loan at Birmingham City, but it is believed his season-long stay does not have a clause that will allow him to be recalled.
City have therefore been forced to look elsewhere and Sunderland's Hungarian shot-stopper Fulop has emerged as one of the most likely targets.
"I can't confirm officially any approach because personally I haven't been contacted by anyone," Fulop told skysports.com.
"But if the news is true then I'd go there happily and I would be hungry to play for Manchester City.
"This is an enormous honour for me that my name has been linked with a club which has such a great history."
Fulop, who has played 14 games for Sunderland this year, was not involved in the weekend win at Hull City with young Northern Irishman Trevor Carson providing the back-up to number one Craig Gordon.
