Emigration?

I'll echo the healthcare groans from the ex pats here in yankeeland. Wifey had a sprog over Christmas, the 'best' bill so far was over 11 grand for the anaesthetic involved. Eleven fucking grand. She was in for 7 nights, dreading seeing what that bill is ffs XD

Other than that its great here.

Fucking hell!!!!!!!!! $11,000????

I fell off my bicycle after the Gladbach home game, completely pissed up celebrating winning the group and the rags winning a spot in the Europa League.
Broke my collar bone and a rib and was charged $5,903.63 of which I am to pay $1,502.28
Next time I will fly home ;)

Doesn't apply much but spent 6 months in the US and also a shorter stint in Dubai several years ago with the job and loved it. Would definitely consider the US long term if I had a job over there to go to!

Apart from the healthcare you have to consider that the visa will not let you stay for longer than 6 months at a time unless obviously you have a job offer. I know a few people who just spend the winter over there and live here in the summer but it's expensive!

To stay permanently without a job you need to have serious money behind you for the investment visa.

If you are considering the EU then it isn't a problem but it might be worth considering the cost implications of say buying a house out there whilst there is a possibility we might not remain in the EU within the next year or so.

Probably left it too late for a permanent move now but having lived in New Zealand in the 90s, come back and raised kids and then took them on holiday there a couple of years ago I would love to be back. I'm able to take retirement in a few of years when i'll be 55 and hoping then for at least a couple of years still working over there. As a mental health nurse there should be opportunities.

Would have been in France now if my wife hadn't died there whilst on holiday in 2010 (see CPR Thread). We'd decided to move there after our holiday, and were coming home to sort things out.

Don't want to go on my own, though, as I'd miss the girls.

The only "upside" (If you can call it that) was that I was there at all our triumphs.
