Emilio Lawrence

What happened to Joe Hodge?

Thought he was mint in FA Youth Cup Final win over Chelsea

I think he had a bad knee injury, then joined Derry on loan but never actually played because of a back injury. He then signed for Wolves last summer, think he’s been playing for their U23’s.

Yeah, I was just looking him up myself. That back injury fucked up the first half of the season for him last season. Hopefully he'll have a change of luck going forward. Strange but he seems to have been around for ages but he's still only 19.

Surely City's academy must be one of the best set ups in the world, why the fuck would he go to Everton in the first place?
He was a baby mate. He was just wowed at his treatment by Everton & made friends there very quickly, so ended up there.

The international trips & tournaments don't start with regularity at City until the boys hit 11/12. He was doing this with Everton aged 8.

He trained with Liverpool, Everton, City & Burnley, but was expected to sign for us, but he'd made strong connections at the Toffees & ended up there...

I’n sure he’s a very promising kid but I think we can cool the jets on ‘future Ballon D’or’ talk for a 16 year old
Wish I hadn't said it now. Loool

But honestly, he's special & I'm made up for him & City that he's coming home. There's never any guarantees, but if he continues the way he is, the sky's the limit.

Good luck to the kid. Seems we are now the place all the best youngsters want to come to
The mistake of not signing for City at 8 years old was very evident to all concerned soon after.

Credit to City who seem prepared to forgive & forget what happened. He was training with Burnley, City, Liverpool & Everton, & was expected to sign for us.

I can't tell you my dismay when he signed for Everton, & my joy that he's coming home to where he belongs. Playing U23 football at 15/16 years old says a lot.

Put something similar on the women's thread. We are losing out to the rags for all the north west's top talent in junior girls football as we start later than other clubs.

Needs looking at.

I think City monitoring mentalities & motivations starts from 6 year olds. Mentality & character is as important to City as talent.

If kids & their parents can't wait until age 12 for all the bells & whistles, alarm bells should sound. The success of our academy sides points to this being the right approach from City.

If Emilio does return, there can be no stronger signal of what is expected of academy students by City. It must have been killing Emilio watching his mates happy & advancing at City, whilst he had daily 2-3 hour round trips to a struggling Everton academy who're apparently in disarray.

This is why I loved Jesus & Zinchenko. Jesus gave it his all & was a model pro. Zin stuck with City, confident in his ability to contribute to the most successful period in our history.

Zin isn't a starter at LB or in Midfield, but he seems happy being second pick when called upon. Every club needs quality squad players, who accept they'll never be first pick, but will play 50%+ of games per season.

He's a brilliant example of how to make a career at a top club when surrounded by the talent we have.

Never heard of him, but always good to bring back a kid who loves the club, these are the players who want to play for us long term.

Let's hold off on calling these kids future balon dor winners though, you never know where the development path takes him.

I have just asked my United mate about him, his lad is pals with him and plays in same team at Everton, Jacob Beaumont-Clark.

Jacob plays for England schoolboys and has just signed scholar forms.

Everton are gutted about Emilio after putting in plenty of work with him.

My mate said he will be on a decent package going to City but be worth it, he's a top talent.

People shouldn't underestimate how proactive Everton are in Manchester and the surrounds.

They know they have to work twice as hard and even set up satellite training nights in Manchester for their kids from the area.

My mate's lad was released by United but Everton take chances on kids all the time.

I remember when my lad was about seven and playing at an indoor tournament near the Trafford Centre, they came to ask his age and had their people at all the games.

And this does piss me off.

My 11-year-old daughter scored the only goal recently to win the Cheshire version of the Champions League, scored 32 goals last season.

She is dynamite and United invited her to Carrington. She scored a hat-trick with her City shirt on.

Last week I had to take her to the Mancunian Suite at Old Toilet (shabby as fuck) for a presentation - again in her City shirt - and they were asking again about taking her.

It's a very difficult decision, she is raised to hate them and even took the United foundation ribbon off her winners' medal, as they were the Cup sponsors.

City don't seem to even bother with scouts and it's killing me, because I won't allow her to not realise her talents.

She's a left winger and has all the skills. She is booked on a City soccer school this summer and we hope that will be enough to wake someone the fuck up.

City are very lazy at that level, which is mad when you think how much they invest in the senior ladies.

If our club choose to be the architects of their own downfall in this regard.....then head over heart is the only way forward.

The best junior competition in Gtr Manchester is the East Manchester Junior League and clubs like Everton, Burnley and Stoke scout it fairly extensively

I don't think we can hold out much longer pal, she is off to high school this summer and will be attending Ashton On Mersey school, the same one United send all their kids to.

Even the fucking PE teacher at the open day watched her smashing pens away with her Doc Martins on and asked if she already played for United?

It's getting desperate.
