Employment Agency rant

Im lucky in that i recruit within the Social Care and Professional/Technical Sectors...candidates with very specific skills and career aspirations...a lot of my job involves "selling"* candidates to Clients. I work on the behalf of candidates as much as clients.

*to use the term selling is the easiest way to describe it...i think its an ugly term to use when dealing with people, and thats why candidates have a problem with it. remember, its a free service...no candidate pays for recruitment services. Thats doesnt mean candidates should be treated badly, but it demonstrates where a lot of the priority will lie

Social care and professional/technical services covers most bases, add public sector and you have a full house ;-)

I agree that working with the specialist agencies is a must. I look at the relationship as supplier/customer because candidates are commodities and employers are customers Whether we like it or not.

My personal problem is that I know in my heart that many jobs advertised are not real and those that are have so many applicants, the odds are stacked against the candidate. My (our) efforts should be used on 'direct sales' to stay with the sales speak.

However, once in my career an agency found me a role so I cannot dismiss all of you.

The other 7 jobs I found myself.

Any more advice on working with you guys would be greatly appreciated.

in my humble experience they are incompetent, self serving wankers who know sweet fuck all about the industries they are putting candidates forward for.

Oh and when you need assistance after being placed, they don't know their arse from their elbow

The rewards from commission is everything to these dynamic, focused and driven individuals - who strive to close deals and create leads. They deserve our respect for the hard work, the long hours and for having to trawl through hundreds of CVs from unemployable wankers who can hardly string three words together.

Recruitment consultants are the unsung heroes of the recession. They are trying to make Britain great again and should be lauded for their endeavours.
