Mancini won the FA Cup and League. This is something we hadn't done for a very long time. He instilled that winning mentality. He also gave us the upper edge against Manure and who could ever forget that 6-1. A lot of that good work has been undone. If Pellegrini had taken over from Hughes I think we'd still be trying to win the league.Mancini inherited a top 4 squad which was underachieving then failed in his first season to get us into the top 4. Compare the Spurs side that beat us to that spot. He also inherited a side in the semi final of a cup and then we choked on that one too. The following summer we signed the likes of Silva and Toure. Yet the following season all we had to show for it was an FA Cup. What had been spent on the squad at that point? Any guesses? Was it a disgrace that we didn't mount a title challenge. Hell Mancini bought Dzeko in January on the premise that Edin would make the difference.
Anyone trying to make the Mancini v Pellegrini argument is going to lose. Both managers were of a similar level and achieved similar things. Pellegrini's progress in Europe probably gives him the edge but it's really marginal and not worth talking about unless we win the damn tournament.
