I did the same thing, terrible idea.
The reason they offer you the choice is because sedation essentially makes you useless for a good 24 hours. You can't operate heavy machinery, drive a car or do any physical exercise and they have to keep you in the hospital for observation for up to 3 hours. So if you really want/need to be on the ball and go home straight after the procedure, then it makes sense not to have the sedation. It's a lot more uncomfortable yes, but you can still cope.
Can you believe I chose not to have the sedation because I didn't want to miss a whole day of college? I can't, what a mug I am. Won't be making that mistake again.
