Energy, the environment & climate change.

It's a dangerous game to play as the fines for a breach of environmental law are potentially unlimited.

Aye, and apparently the companies disappear as quickly as they appear. He reckons it's a future public scandal in the making, but before the story breaks, there's shitloads of britain getting poisoned. This is all anecdotal of course, he's just my mate, but he's been with the company for 20 years and he's not one to go making up stories like this. It was frightening listening to what he had to say.

What are the chances of punishment happening though? The Environment Agency (who enforce the law) budget has been cut by over 50% over the last decade.

They tend to go for the big fish where they have a high probability of winning their case. Some companies have been prosecuted many years after the original offence.

I've done an IEMA accredited Environmental law and policy course (a few years ago now). Some of the stuff discussed on the course was exactly this. We had a guest speaker who was a prominent Environmental lawyer (Kate Kellehr) who gave us the down and dirty on some of the cases she'd worked on. It really was staggering what people think they can get away with on an industrial scale.

what's frightening is having a gov who are allowing these bastards to get away with it but, with captain cuntpants in charge, that ain't going to change

The more and more I read about the subject the clearer it becomes that we are well and truly fucked, maybe not our generation but I fear for what my children and grandchildren are going to face.
We really are the masters of our own demise.

I think it might be worth promoting this to the Politics sub-forum.

Net zero and climate change are about to be politicised into the stratosphere

Looks like Farage may lead for a push to put net zero up for referendum. The angle is to put climate and net zero firmly into the culture wars arena, further stretching and fracturing the UK public.
