England Euro 2012 thread

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

I had hope when I was younger and we might have won a few things if lady luck smiled on us a bit more.

But the new breed we have now focus on image and champions league I get the feeling playing for England just isn't as important to them.

Now if players were picked from teams not in the top 4 of the premier league who don't play champions league football......i'd have more interest.

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

I've never been particularly bothered when it comes to England.

usually when I watch them play its as though I'm a neutral, you don't have anywhere near the passion and emotional attachment you do with club football, I cant say I cared in the last WC with the Lampard goal etc

Ive surprised myself this year though as I'm strangely looking forward to it, more the competition itself and so many great players/games to watch as a neutral, I'll be supporting England as well.

I also think it'll be interesting to see how far England get, I think semi finals could be on the cards, (though like people have said it's the same unfulfilled optimism every year! especially when we had nothing to cheer about domestically).

My confidence in England doing well this year is the style of play. don't expect pretty football, Woy will be going with every intention to win games 1-0, chelsea-esque!

It makes a BIG difference when you like the manager and want him to do well too, as well is not being a team full of rags!

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

The best tournaments have been when England aren't there. Then the true football fans can enjoy it without the pubs being full of clueless twats with St George Cross-painted faces, women, scumbags and borderline racists who suddenly become football experts for a fortnight when England are in a world cup or Euros.
Amazed that I have yet to see a single person driving about with a plastic St George's flag on their car yet. The last couple of world cups and Euros, they were everywhere

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

What's wrong with the St George flag?

Because a few idiots use it for the wrong reasons condemning it like that is just wrong.

It's idiots who just condemn OUR flag that irritate me.

Never said there was anything wrong with the flag. Get the sand out of your vagina, you sound like a letter to the Daily Mail.
But unless you are a child of primary school age, only an idiot paints their face for a football match. Especially if they are watching it in a pub.
And the little flags on cars seem to have totally disappeared this time round. Have you seen any?

Surely you see the irony in a gang of face-painted idiots in Yates' on Portland Street at the last World Cup, singing "I'd rather be a P**i than a Turk", closely followed by "With St George In My Heart" — when many historians believe St George was, errrr, from Turkey.

Yes you did and you said a lot more than that.

It's cuntish attitudes like yours which bring football fans down and feed the media myth that we're all hooligans.

If the English flag isn't your national flag you should have some respect.

If it is then you should be ashamed of yourself you numpty.

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

Dear Richard Littlejohn.
If you had bothered to read what I posted, I pointed out that it is not football fans I have a problem with. Just the opposite, in fact.
What I do have a problem with is the knuckle draggers, clueless fuckers and plastics who suddenly latch on to football when a major tournament comes around.
You know the sort. Never been to a match in their lives but are suddenly experts with a few lagers down them. Pissed up women who buy an England top from Top Shop and stagger about Piccadilly Gardens shrieking "Rooney, Rooney". The sort of gobshites I witnessed singing racist songs in Yates's during the World Cup — the sort of songs that would see you get a slap if you had tried singing them on the streets around Maine Road, for example. Grown ups who paint their faces to watch a football match in a pub.
If you want to hang with these kind of people simply because they are England fans for two weeks every two years, then that's your choice. Me, I'll stick with the people who follow football year-round.
Some idiots, plastics and racists latch on to England at a major football tournament. That doesn't mean I said England fans are all racist or idiotic. In your rush to wrap yourself in the flag, you are trying to put words in my mouth that I simply didn't say.

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

Perhaps you didn't proofread your own post.

But you're explaining yourself now.

Football should be exclusive for the right people.

Now I get you.

Re: Is anyone arsed in Manchester...

Im just glad we now have a decent manager who is at least willing to try that new 4-4-2 formation that the continent is raving about. Long balls to player of the year carroll who can hold the ball up and bring in the tried and tested partneship of lamps and stevie g.

The only way we can possibly fail is if our players are fatigued from too many games or are not sharp due to a lack of games or if the manager is to pally with the players or he is too strict with the players. also it might be a good idea for the wags to spend time with the players whilst keeping their distance.
