England Squad - Euro 2024

Luckily he has a coach that will build him back up.

Also he won't be tainted by the expected failure and the media will hammer the waistcoat for not taking him.

For all of Pep's brilliance, one thing he hasn't managed to do is get Jack to change his mindset. He's very supportive of team mates - shown by how glowingly he talked about Kovacic and how he was getting all the first time winners to lift the trophy on Sunday. But he's also very hard on himself. Congratulating Pep and then refusing his praise in return because he's "only" won 3, not the 4. He needs to shake himself up, he was a critical part of our treble last season and it doesn't matter how big his role. He needs to find positives in everything he does and relieve the pressure.

The media, from what I've seen so far, don't think he is deserving of a place in the squad. I don't think Southgate will be hammered for taking him. The opposite in fact, I think fans will question why he's in there and say it's just because he plays for City.

Not confirmed but dead certs:

Pickford, Walker, Stones, Maguire, Trippier, Alexander-Arnold, Rice, Gallagher, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Palmer, Kane, Watkins

Confirmed:

D. Henderson, Trafford, Quansah, Guehi, Branthwaite, Colwill, Shaw, Wharton, Jones, Mainoo, Eze, Maddison, Bowen, Toney

28 so far.

No Chilwell, Sterling or Henderson.

If it is 30, I reckon it's Gordon and a 4th keeper (either Ramsdale or Pope). Gomez, Grealish and Rashford might sneak in if it's more than 30.
Trippier has had an awful second part of the season, unless they are going to play him left back I don't see the point in him going, Maguire is just shit and Gallagher is the new Henderson. Trafford isn't good enough, neither is Quansah, Jones or Mainoo. Gordon should be ahead of Rashford and probably Jack

Surely, the ones who will obviously not make the final cut would be better off on a beach somewhere getting a rest ?

Yes and no. I don't think Gareth will give them false hope - I'm sure he's said that he wants them in the provisional squad and there's an opportunity but that he's exploring a number of options. But there are a hell of a lot of names being confirmed who have never been capped or only have a couple and it's good to give them a bit of the experience to prepare them for the future.

FWIW Bellingham as a false 9 was a compeltely first half of the season thing, since then he's back to playing as a box to box, which is why he's not scoring anymore.
Fair enough. Maybe I should rephrase and suggest the false 9 is where he’s most effective.

Rice
Bellingham
Foden
Saka
Kane
Gordon

is probably what we need to try, but will Rice be able to be a lone 6?

Looks like it's going to be a squad of 40 based on the names mentioned, and will be refined from there. Makes sense as there are a lot of injury concerns, but this is more a case of getting people involved in and around a camp for the future and I'm sure a lot will be straight to the beach in a couple of weeks but better for a small taste of being in and around the squad potentially.

I'm therefore hopeful Jack is called up and given an opportunity to force his way in. There are plenty of names so far that simply don't make a final 26.

Southgate has never seemed that big on Grealish anyway, and I'm certain he wouldn't utilise him in the team in the way that he should, so I don't think it'll make a huge difference if he makes the squad or not.

I hope he does because I think he would be gutted to miss out, or I hope that Southgate understands he's beneficial if used properly.

people could make a case that there's more deserving players based on what they've done during the season and it's a fair point, but you could go through quite a few of those that'll make the squad and ask why they're in there if that's what the selection is based on, I.e rag players like Shaw and Maguire.

Crikey at the rate the rumours are going they will have named waistcoat's squad before he does........... not that it will make any difference.
This fool on BBC saying that 'the team simply has to be, and will be, built around Jude Bellingham with Harry Kane as the central striker.' even though he admits that Foden 'best position is clearly centrally'. Then build the blooming team around the BEST player not the ones with the higher profile because they play for teams who are the media favourites rather than the BEST player who happens to play for a team who are definitely not flavour of the month.... but still happen to be the BEST TEAM IN THE LAND AND ALL THE WORLD. Whoops sorry my keyboard can't type those 9 words in lower case. ;-) :-)
