Making Rooney captain was shambolic and cemented my opinion of Hodgson. He's another old school manager who is in with the FA. He might be experienced but he's only won things in Scandinavia. In major tournaments he's made the final of the UEFA Cup twice with Inter and Fulham but lost the final.
He was tactically inept against Italy where the whole world could see Pirlo was the danger man. Instead he played Rooney wide left to try and fit others in.
Rooney is now a major restriction to the development of this England side. He's probably third or fourth best striker (which shows how shite the options are), and he's probably third or fourth best no.10. By playing him we have to play a slower possession based game, which we're shite at.
If Kane was the no.9 we'd have an instant target to get the ball to. Getting the ball forward quickly has always been England's way. Our defence is questionable so we'd be better playing a deeper line and just having pace off Kane. With Walcott, Sterling, Sturridge (potentially playing a 4-4-2 or 4-2-3-1 then we've plenty of talent and pace.
You could play any of those in the no.10 role, or Lallana who seems to be very efficient there at International level. You've got Barkley as well as an option and could play Oxlade-Chamberlain wide.
There are plenty of attacking options and Rooney just slows everything down and nullifies our attack. Going into the Euro's we could do with Rooney being injured and out of the squad.
