Apparently Rooney has missed training due to injury and is a doubt...

Hopefully he's out for both games and England can play better players. The trouble is, without Rooney there isn't anyone to lead the side. They're all largely young players who lack that leadership. As shite as Rooney is, he does have the winning mentality.

There have been some pretty good young captains in football, but I reckon Hart could do a decent job as captain.

I'm not a fan of having your keeper as your captain. He's too far removed from the rest of the game, and I'd prefer a keeper to be left alone to concentrate on his own job.

Zoff wasn't a disaster nor was Casillas, I reckon it can work at international level if the keeper is respected.

I'm not either, but Hart should have been the captain when you look at the other options Hodgson had. It shouldn't have been Rooney considering his form was questionable. After the last WC I'd have looked at who was likely to be involved for England over the next 4 years... Hart was the stand out candidate and he's incredibly vocal and articulate and could have led us to decent results. There isn't really anyone there who is worthy of the captaincy. It will probably go to Smalling if Rooney is injured!

Even if I didn't want Hart rested from City's point of view. From England's point of view I agree with giving Butland time in at least one of the games. Reckon Hart should be captain for the other though.
