England Squad (merged with Jesse Lingard thread)

Don't be fair to Hodgson, he's had enough fairness for not being sacked after the WC efforts. He wanted Gerrard and Lampard to play on rather than retire, he's clueless. Hart should have been captain, by making Rooney captain he can't drop him but he's shown this season how out of touch he is. He was a brute at 16 and was a top player for ten years but it's caught up with him in recent times. Making him captain was constraining Hodgsons ability to pick his best side. Hart is likely to be there for the next two major tournaments. I'd argue strongly that Rooney won't be and if he stays in current form we'll experience the same results at the Euros as we did at the WC. Yes there are lots of young players in sporadic form but I would have given Hart the captaincy and picked Rooney in the squad and built for the WC allowing the Euros to be a stepping stone. We're not going to win the Euro's so it's a chance to just develop tournament experience.
I agree 100%, Hodgson is shit, and Rooney is shit, the only reason I agree with the Rooney captaincy is that it does seem to bring the best out of him for England, however having said that with playing teams like San Marino etc. I think I could match his goals scored.

My point was more that say England pick a team including Stones, Kane, Berahino, Callum Wilson, Ings and others for the experience of the WC in 2018 you could easily see England being dicked in the groups (they will anyway I suppose no matter the squad) only for 10 or 11 from the 23 picked to be in the squad for the WC. You are right Hart will be a mainstay for the team up until the 2018 WC and beyond possibly. And half agree with the euros, youth should be used but not in view of the WC but just because some of the players picked are either too old now anyway or just underserving. Jagielka is well past it and won't play for England again after the euros so whats the point? same most likely with Carrick, Rooney and Baines.

the main XI should be Hart, Walker, Stones, Cahill, Bertrand, Wilshere, Barkley, Henderson(...unfortunately), Sterling, Walcott, Kane.
It won't be but oh well.

England 11 for the up coming games -

Hart
Simpson-Smalling-Tomkins-Rose
Drinkwater-Alli
Albrighton-Rooney-Sterling
Vardy

Goalkeepers: Jack Butland (Stoke), Joe Hart (Manchester City), Tom Heaton (Burnley)

Defenders: Ryan Bertrand (Southampton), Gary Cahill (Chelsea), Nathaniel Clyne (Liverpool), Kieran Gibbs (Arsenal), Phil Jones (Manchester United), Chris Smalling (Manchester United), John Stones (Everton), Kyle Walker (Tottenham)

Midfielders: Dele Alli (Tottenham), Eric Dier (Tottenham), Ross Barkley (Everton), Michael Carrick (Manchester United), Fabian Delph (Manchester City), Adam Lallana (Liverpool), James Milner (Liverpool), Jonjo Shelvey (Swansea), Raheem Sterling (Manchester City)

Forwards: Harry Kane (Tottenham), Wayne Rooney (Manchester United), Jamie Vardy (Leicester)

Gibbs in, no Rose?
Jones in, no Tomkins?
Shelvey in, no Noble?
Delph in, no Drinkwater?

Gibbs (0/11), Jones (2/11) and Delph (2/11) have barely started a game all season, how they get in the squad, at this stage, is beyond me...

Looks like we're going to be in the doldrums for a lot longer.
Whatever side he picks out of that squad, doesn't really excite.
I don't know whether it's the players or the knowledge that whoever
plays it will be turgid in the exreme, under Roys' stewardship.

i liken my relationship to the england team like a 40 year marriage.

it started off fun, with excitement and wonder, hope and a few licks behind the ears and knee tremblers.
but then the disappointments and letdowns, the betrayals, the uncovering of a gold digger just after my money. take take take and no give.
eventually i realized that the relationship is actually not there anymore, i just dont give a shit what they get up to as long as they dont interfere with my life.

so, all you utd and liverpool players can take the euros and worldies and shove them up your arses!!!
Brilliantly put!

As in "come on Wayne, show us what you're made of, but mind you don't tread in it"??

CS12 at the centre of defence JV9 and HK10 up top and we will beat France and Spain easy.

Roy Honaldson Will play Smallaldo left back and Vardynho left wing just to give them a chance.

After this weekends fixtures it would have been nice to see an England 11 like this -

Hart
Simpson-Smalling-Tomkins-Rose
Drinkwater-Carrick
Albrighton-Rooney-Sterling
Vardy
