Let's hope we don't have penalties.
Baines is one of the best takers in the business. I've not seen Warnock or Cole take too many lol.

baines wouldnt have got a chance to take any penalties in the knock out stages, would have been crying to get back to the UK by then!

That seems to be the theory behind his ommision, though our pre season is in Australia, so he'll need to get around that too.

Baines has a tackle success rate of 65% compared to Warnock's 79% so he clearly doesn't have the best defensive stats between those two never mind the league.

I'd still have Baines though :)

Baines is an attacking left back like Cole, and it's the attacking stats he excells in, especially with assists.
Warnock might be a better tackler, but Baines is the player in form, despite the Mexico game.

Wright Phillips isn't in the same league as Lennon etc, and I'd rather Johnson had gone.

You've just contradicted yourself, you can clearly see in your original post that you say 'Baines has the best defensive stats in the league', not the best attacking stats for a defender.

I agree with you that Baines is better, and also that Johnson or Wlacott should have gone ahead of SWP.

Really? I know he's not exactly a footballer and it annoys me that he's rated so highly by the media because of one good game against Croatia but his pace in the last 20 minutes of matches would create so many opportunities. Ideal substitute.

honestly i've never rated walcott. would rather have swp, lennon,AJ,milner ahead of him any day of the week. actually i think darren huckerby was a better player! lol

Technically they are/were better footballers but you can't deny his pace would create opportunities.

has anyone after this announcement saga just really got up for the world cup, cant wait now!!gonna be class!!!
The complete opposite for me.

Our manager is in talks about his future just ten days before the start of the fucking World Cup, the squad has been announced in a way that even Simon Cowell would find crass, and our only decent left-sided winger has been told he's staying at home.

Can't wait for the fucking thing to finish now.

1359: On BBC Radio 5 live and elsewhere, they are playfully speculating that the delay to the official England squad announcement may be because Fabio Capello cannot get through to one of the players. He did say he'd tell the seven unlucky ones before making it public, so there might be some truth in that.

lol

I contradict myself all the time. That is the funny thing about football, but I knew what I meant lol.

right putting the AJ debacle to one side.
The sooner the " shoe ins" GERRARD, FERDINAND, HESKEY , ROONEY, TERRY COLE, LAMPARD, JAMES.. etc fuck off and retire the better, we need young hungry players who play with no fear and with flair.

This " GOLDEN GENERATION" to me is why we will not win anything, they have no fear of losing their place and play with a large amount of fear of failure restricting their natural game.

young blood please next time

you've 100% hit the nail on the head there fella. been saying the same thing myself and it's one of the reasons my support of england isnt what it once was. golden generation - what a load of old shit that was!
