England squad

He's a strange bloke Southgate. When he was first appointed I was underwhelmed but at first he appeared to be his own man and made some brave decisions. He got us to the world cup semi finals more by luck.than design, but so starved have we been of success even this was welcome.

Since then it has gone a bit backwards. With every passing month he seems to be reverting to type and becoming an FA yes man, something that appears more important than success in the corridor's of power. I'm not sure what style and formation we are playing and I don't think the players do either. We are hard to beat, awkward, with one or two quality players but that's about it. It's all a bit meh and uninspiring but if it wins a tournament good on him.

Good to see Kyle rated MOM in the Daily Fail player ratings. Never would have guessed that from the commentary.

the truth is, we all would like to have seen Grealish, Foden, Mount etc all start and really 'go for it' but sometimes you have to be conservative, Belgium haven't lost in 20 games, they score for fun, Southgate set up perfect to stifer that - our shape when we didn't have the ball was perfect and Belgium could not break us down at all ... and we still had chances to win by more. Had he played a more young experimental side and gone all out attack and we lose, then he get's pelters thrown at him for that. The England job is the ultimate poison chalice.

I agree it's not easy, it never has been. I'd settle for us boring our way to a trophy, Greece did it so I guess it's not impossible.

we was so close last World Cup, just so difficult to win International tournaments, they don't often come round, there's loads of very very strong sides and you need a dose of luck at times.

That’s football.

Man City are the best team in the world.
They just lost 5-2 to Leicester and couldn’t beat Leeds recently.

Great argument, City are consistent trophy winners over the last decade.

England have won fuck all in over half a century, might as well be Newcastle.

You’ve got a point there. As city fans were used to, perhaps even spoilt seeing fantastic attacking football, you see the talent England have going forward and we want to see them play to their full potential and play the kind of football we all enjoy seeing, winning ugly is fine when there’s no alternative but England have the players to win well and people want to see that. It’s entertainment after all.

We’re so drowned in negativity and being told the manager is shit, the players are shit etc we are blind to see we’re actually a very good team.
even now, after beating one of the worlds best teams , fans still wont give any credit and will be forgotten by next game.
lol we are not a very good team,we are a very average team, freak results happen now & then....

Agree, we all want to see that... but going full out attack against Belgium and we likely lose. that's not entertainment, people will moan.

against lesser team, i agree with you - was good to see us stuff Wales the other day with some of the exciting prospects coming through.

I find it ironic that we've gone from having a shortage of creative midfielders and strikers to having a decent amount and the positions we were were strong in, like DM and CH, are now weaknesses. As for keepers- well best not even talk about that.

He's not injured.
Fcuks sake
Fuck sake back at you. He was clearly injured and has now returned to Manchester and will miss the Iceland game.
Martinez wouldn’t withdraw his best player when they are losing with 30 minutes to play. Kev would never come off when his team are losing and they need him.
Im not saying it’s serious but he was clearly injured “fcuks sake”!

I don't want to be too harsh on Southgate here, but so far -

The Captain is awaiting trial for assualt and bribery.
The 2 biggest wonderkids are being punished for breaking covid rules.
The only LB in the squad and 2 others young players had to be kept out of the squad for breaking the lockdown rules.
The RB is being charged with slipping inside info for people to bet on.

Discipline doesn't seem to be holding up.

either that or none of them take International football too seriously...

the thing is, I often get tagged into England threads when England are playing, often to be goaded, in which I bite.
but I just give the truth from my perspective and never go down the road of being abusive and telling someone to piss off.
Try being a Spurs fan on here. That's why I leave the England and VAR threads to you. You can take the pelters while I eat some Monster Munch pickled onion flavour

How the hell have City allowed our injured players to be called up ?
Powerless and we play by the rules unlike everyone else who lies through the back teeth over player injuries.

Lee fucking Carsley is doing himself no favours here by calling up injured players.

Looks like a Stuart Pearce moment with some of the daft management decisions he made meaning no one will touch him now.
