They appear to be absolutely desperate for him to be this immense world class defender, and if they say it enough they'll convince the whole world! If he gives the ball away or finds himself out of position ( which is a regular occurrence ) they just gloss over it. If he does something average they sugar coat it. He's a decent player nothing more nothing less. I've only heard Souness dare to challenge the propaganda. The difference is that the Irish fans support Ireland and all the Irish players. The English fans are City fans who support City players and hate the rag players, the rag fans hate the City players , the Everton supporters hate the Liverpool players etc. There's no real unity. The entire of Ireland gets behind Ireland. England might if things are going well but the slightest thing goes wrong and it's the Chelsea players fault or the City players fault etc.
There's no real unity and if we could unite just a bit more we might do a bit better.
They don't have a good team but they always try, and that's enough. English fans think they're better than they really are.
It results in the Irish fans having an unreal time wherever they go and are welcomed with open arms by every country they play away from home, English fans on the other hand..

I don't necessarily want England to lose, I just think that some players are over rated and shouldn't be in the team. England play a boring brand of football and we have been tactically and technically inept since 1980, except for the Bobby Robson era.

Look at the Irish team, it's not just tonight that they put this effort in, they give 100% effort for the green shirt every time they put it on. That's what I want from England players.
