Time will tell. These haven’t been preseason friendlies. These have been games played where our players are up to speed and we were still shite tonight.

We lost 4-0 at home to Hungary 3 months ago.

Each time we play, it’s making us look worse. We created nothing tonight.

Italy are shite. Hungary are shite.

We‘re going to struggle next month unless something miraculous happens.

I honestly can see us having a good tournament - we’ve got a class young side, defensively I worry

but let’s not forget when/if we do win and score it will be the usual ‘we only beat the other side because they’re sh*t’ …
Even reaching a semi final and losing on pens in a final wasn’t enough to please so I don’t have any hope those who slate England now will ever give Southgate any credit when we do play well

Indeed - but unless a England Manager actually wins a major tournament (which is a massive massive ask regardless how good the squad is) then they simply get labelled as ‘failures’ , always said it’s the ultimate poison chalice

Every fan has a different view on formations and players with tribal club loyalty a factor so there’s no squad or tactics that can please ever.

Not defending England or Southgate in the Nations League, we’ve been awful. But for Major Tournaments is where I reserve judgment and Southgate has done more than enough to have another crack imo.
Mate,i have liked your posts (majority of them)since you joined on here, and you talk a lot of sense, but Southgate has fucked up a more than decent squad of attack minded players,to the failures we are having to watch now.
Shit club manager
Shit England manager
FA yes man.

Southgate has been unbelievably lucky in my humble opinion. He’s not won matches by being better, he’s won 2-3 matches more than he should have in his two main tournaments.

By England standards World Cup Semi Final and Euros final can not be deemed a failure

Nations league is little more than a friendly competition imo

So on the above basis Southgate deserves a final chance

The next manager whoever it is will face the same criticisms about players and tactics, formations and whatever else- so I don’t bother going down that road. No manager will ever please if we’re being honest.

Which picture of Mr Stones did you look at for 2 hours instead?
Unfortunately I haven’t got one of John Boy so I have to make do with the little corner that has Richard Dunne, Joe Hart (with me!) Vincent Kompany (with me!) :-)

EDIT: John Boy should never have been sent off against Hungary anyway! (IMHO)

Mobile, makes good runs, tidy on the ball, probably needs to add more end product but the best of a bad bunch there.

I suppose with Rice and Henderson sitting, Sterling might be able to do that role but he looks miles off of his best at the moment.

Could bring Grealish inside but then Saka and Sterling look way off it to play on the left, even Grealish isn't tearing up trees but he might buy us time on the ball.

Mason Mount is crap.

Maddison doesn't appear to be getting a look in but then Leicester are bottom.

We just don't have that many great options.
The boy Cole Palmer can thread his way through tight defences. He's also got an eye for goal.
This world cup is probably too early, but can anyone else see an England call for him in the near future?

We've definitely over achieved under him at major tournaments, although the draw worked out nicely in the euros. A shitty German team on home soil was a still a good win.

These friendlies are just that. But if you're going to fuck around with right wingers at left wing back then you deserve all you get.

Certain players should not be near the first xi. Sterling, Shaw, maguire. I'd rather take a chance on some kids...Cole Palmer for starters
