England Thread - 2023/24

No manager will satisfy unless we win something.
I don’t think that’s true. Like City of old, and surely West Ham, we know what expectations come with a certain team of players.

Are you saying that this is an average team, where do you think they stand against other countries?

Personally, I think we have a team on par, if not better than the worlds best, and that’s been coming since the integration of quality overseas, technical players, combined with some of the best managers in the world.

I thought Southgate was probably the manager that we needed because if we’re putting BFS in charge then their was a real issue. Where we fell short is keeping him on when performances outweighed results.

No manager will satisfy until they start playing the best players, in their best positions and getting the maximum out of them. This clown is totally inept in almost every facet of management.
A little entertainment here and there wouldn't go amiss either.
The only way he can improve in my eyes is to leave every City player out of his squads because there are no advantages playing his way.

For me if England have a chance of winning anything they need to play

Walker stones dunk
Rice
Bellingham foden
Saka kane grealish

A decent manager

Left back and keeper I'm unsure on. Can't see Wanker playing Foden in the centre because he will almost always play two DMs. It will be either Phil or Jack wide and maybe neither.

Exactly the team I would have. And to be honest, I wouldn't even be opposed to putting rashford on the left against certain teams, even though I don't think he's anything great as a player, but he's dangerous on the counter for sure.

Like you, I wouldn't know who to put at left back. I think we're a lacking a quality left back. Im OK with Trippier though even though he's really a right back, but he's solid enough for me.

I think the Arsenal keeper is probably the best of a fairly average bunch.

I don't feel its necessary to play two DM's, nor Bellingham as a "10". He covers so much ground anyway that he could play a bit deeper than a 10 and still get forward anyway. Then it frees up space for Foden to play behind kane.

Seems a totally logical set up to me...

Very good players playing in positions where they can have most success. Imagine that?

Has any manager ever achieved your needs? It’s the ultimate goal for every manager. Not even Pep gets everything right!

El Tel! I liked him alot, top guy, top manager. Hard to evaluate too much as he only had 1 tournament, but let's pretend Social Media/Forums was around back then.

Upon his appointment -

'Typical FA yes man'
'He won't win us anything'
'The guy is a serious crook and a fraud'

Euro 96 -
(No boring qualifying matches as we were host nation so avoids loads of pre tournament scrutiny)

'players all on the piss up - why is Venables allowing this? hope these cunts lose '
'shows he has no control over players'

England 1-1 Switzeland

'

'boring as fuck'
'Gazza still probably pissed'
'Clearly doesn't know how to use this lot '
'took off Gazza for David Platt, when we're trying to win! guys a joke'

Scotland 0-2 England

'
Southgate starting in midfield! he's clueless'
'Worst Scotland team ever, we should be comfortably beating these'
'yeh we won, but it was only Scotland, calm down'

England 4-1 Holland

'about time they put in performance'
'fair play, we played alright, still want that **** out'
'4-4-2 worked today but that isn't going to win us a trophy'

England 0-0 Spain

'load of shit'
'how boring was that?!'
'scrappy shite, we need a manager that goes for it'
'lucky to win on pens, we'll be found out next game'

England 1-1 Germany (lose on pens)

'

'why did he not bring on any subs?! ffs'
