No mark gutless performance , the Busby babe 3 anonymous, shocking.

I thought Welbeck played well, certainly compared to the other two. The decision to take him off instead of Rooney was a poor one, it was already perfectly clear by that point that Rooney was having one of 'those' nights and there was no coming back into the game for him. Not saying Welbeck was fantastic but he certainly showed a lot more spark than Rooney and can feel aggrieved he was taken off.

We are technically lacking. If we can keep the defensive solidity but improve our ball retention (a lot!) we will give a better account of ourselves in Brazil.

Thank god we support a team that play much better football than England. But I don't think we should turn on the England players. I don't think there has been the complacency or bad attitudes we've seen before, anywhere near this tournament. We're just a very limited side. That's....progress?

After their woeful Euro 2000 campaign Germany had a complete overhaul of their grass roots and youth system. It took a few years but look at the players they have now and the youth players coming though
Germany are light years ahead of us
The FA are a cash cow and could afford to do it but more than likely they wont

Instead the FA appoint Roy 4-4-2 Hodgson. Defensive minded and pure mediocrity. Where is the evidence he can affect the kind of revolution German football went through? Maybe it's time to abolish the FA and start again.

England Football Federation.......anyone?

Priceless look on Coles face when Buffon stop his. I thought for sure he'd start jumping around yelling, "Do over!Do over!"

Roy will bring us on how? Boring defensive football have a word

And we have done well? Have we I must have missed that it's this mentality that makes us so wank

Well as we weren't expected to get through the group stages we did much better than expected. I didn't feel that it was boring but then I have only been watching football for 60 odd years!!

It's called managing expectations down. Hodgson was good at that, but piss poor at managing the team. The guys a muppet.

Tried to give him some leeway when he was appointed but his squad selection and football style for me make him little better than McClaren

AJ, Carrick. Micah and even Scholes left at home - Oxley Chamberlain on the bench that useless fookin turd Young not getting subbed (Milner should have stayed on the pitch and swopped wings and a 4 4 2 formation - dismall fookin dismal - in terms of footballing technique we are miles behined and that is why we generally lose penalties because quite simply we aint good enough - World class players give me a fookin laff - Perlo fookin shone tonite Gerrard and Rooney were fookin uselsss apart from lots of huff and puff which seems to be only a important atribute in the prem

Well done Italy at least you tried to play football

The only 2 players to come out of the euros with there heads held high for England joe hart and joleon lescott proud of you lads.Wayne rooney your a ****.

I think he set it up in the best way he could. We're crying out for someone to control a game but we just don't have one. The quality of available players just isn't there.

Who do we have to run a game like Pirlo, Silva, Ozil, Modric?

I'll answer for you...... Nobody!!!

I cannot give you one name of an English player in this mould. Frightening

All I keep hearing is how weak we are technically. However from what I have seen their isn't a lot wrong with our Back Four and that is without Richards.

We have pace out wide in Walcott and Young ( although Young had a stinker of a Tournament) and we have decent young Forwards in Wellbeck and Sturridge.

Midfield is where we are out of our depth. All night we have heard Pirlo this and Pirlo that. We chose Parker and Henderson. Carrick,Joe Cole and Ginger Pig were all at home and Lampard,Barry and Wilshire were injured.

I am so dissapointed not that we lost, but that we should have lost resoundingly. This wasn't a great Italian side by any means and penalties flattered us.

To be fair football associations have just voted through big changes at youth level. I'm not entirely sure of the details but it involves the scrapping of leagues until a certain age (so coaches focus on what's best for the kids development, not for their own ego) and playing on smaller pitches to encourage more emphasis on possession. It should eventually lead to positive changes in the English game, in theory.

Brilliant commentary on RTE2, btw. One said well, over half England's starters weren't "international players", didn't include any Citizens in that list however!
