England V Scotland Tonight

Re: England V Scotland Next week

Mystic Nij confidently predicts it will be a half-paced borefest of an anti-climax which Ingerland will probably win 2-0.
I can honestly say I haven't looked forward to a game as much as this since last season's Evo-Stick Northern Premier League play offs and I very much doubt I will find a single fuck to give before kick off.

Re: England V Scotland Next week

Carrick's been withdrawn from the game today as he's got "an eye-infection".

Every fucking time the scum do this for friendlies and are allowed to. He played the full game for the Charity Shield (I didn't see the game but the mirror article says he was voted MOTM?).

There should be a rule, if you withdraw from the national team for an injury when the next club game is within a certain amount of time you automatically cannot play in that game. As I'm fairly confident this "eye infection" will have disappeared in 3 days time.

Being an englishman living in Scotland, the Scottish are very excited about this game. They have been talking about it for weeks in fact.

There are a number who I work with who are going straight out after work for a few pints and to watch the game together in the pub. They are taking it seriously - but they are bitter towards the english so this is probably why.

Is looking forwards to your national team playing their historic rivals really a bad thing? I think you are all taking it seriously, you're just a little scared to admit it in case you lose, needing your 'i didn't care anyway' get out.

And as part of a mixed family of English and Scots, with Scots living in England and English living in Scotland we've had this conversation quite often, the consensus is there's actually far more genuine animosity against Scottish folk from English, than vice versa. Mostly stemming from jealousy and a sense of unfairness these days, the benefits we get from having our own parliament, free education etc, not much bitterness on this end. Except for being subjected to a tory government.

But anyway, enjoy the match. Bar the idiots and drunken idiots on both sides, it's really just a friendly sporting rivalry.

Cant see the sense in this tie to be honest especially a few days before the season kicks off.
It's on the International calendar and doesn't coincide with the first weekend's fixtures in almost every other league in the world. It's us who choose to start our season immediately after the International fixtures set at this time.

Ok, calm down :-) Awfully uptight for someone who doesn't care.
