England v Ukraine - Sun 26th March 2023, 17:00

So life continues as was under Southgate. Two games, two wins and that puts us in a great position to qualify. We've played the two biggest rivals in the group, one away and won both. A good start.

It would have been nice to see him be more proactive. The Italy goal was coming, but considering it was scored in the 56th minute I'm not sure why he waited until the 69th to bring Foden on. Still similar issues that he's always had, and it would be good to see him be more tactically astute and think of ways to force the opposition back through a change in personnel or formation rather than just hoping we ride it out.

Against Ukraine similarly, 2-0 and coasting but he seemed concerned it could be 2-1 so didn't want to bring any key players off. Toney should have been given 30 mins.

All minor stuff at this stage though, job done and hopefully he experiments a bit more in the easier games to build a squad for the Euro's.

Not part of his persona!

I went to Wembley to see England for the 1st time.

Lots of families - had the Mexican wave, light show on the phones and paper plane competition.

What was good was the support for each player. Sense of anticipation and a ‘Jude’ chant every time he got near the ball or did anything. You don’t tend to hear that watching on the tv.
Thank the Lord.

Always watched the national team and always will.

Why wouldn't you? Unless you're a scouse...

Southgate is steady away, and we have come closer to winning stuff than we have in half a decade. People may think he's boring etc, which maybe he is. But he gets the job done. As others on here have alluded to he makes sure we don't lose first then we go on and win the majority of games.

Happy enough with how we play tbh.

Weren't we also the highest scorers in the World Cup too? People will pick out the opposition but teams always become really bad the moment England have beaten them. I remember plenty saying that Iran would be a test for us before England put 6 past them. Then suddenly the same people were saying Iran were garbage. We beat Wales comfortably and never got out of second gear despite it being like a final for them, and then the African Champions Senegal were supposed to give us a stern test even without Mane. We batter them and then Senegal were suddenly always shit in the eyes of some. You couldn't make it up. Had we beat France it would have only been because they were without a few players, despite us also not having our best full-backs available in the tournament.

We get so much slander from our own people. Other countries don't even need to bother having a dig at us, just copy what's written in our own papers or on football forums.

I know who/what I think he is; he's a fucking moron much like many, many other footballers/ex-footballers!
Anybody who can comes out with such gems as "we were more readier" and "a duck out of water" whilst on national television ought to take a long hard look at themselves.

Oh, and he's a scouse **** to boot.
He's as happy as a pig in water
...and as slippery as an eel.

He does leave his subs far too late generally and has a knack of taking the wrong players off. But he's not perfect and all things considered, he's done and is still doing a fantastic job.

I'd like to see him experiment with different players to develop that Plan B. Get a feel for what other combinations would work and cause the opposition problems. Because there's a risk any game could go to penalties he's never taking Kane off unless the game it out of sight. But when we're under pressure, although Kane is very good at holding the ball up and winning a free kick, he's also not going to burst in behind or press the opposition with the same intensity other players would. He has to start getting comfortable making more drastic changes and he can only do that by testing things now.

Otherwise it's always just a straight swap unless it's too late to impact things. Rashford on for 5 minutes or Vardy late into ET at the 2018 world cup. Things need to happen sooner.

Ward Prowse is a man that would be in my squad. Best set piece taker in the league and someone who can carve a chance late on from those situations. He's also a solid all round player and someone we should be looking at having in tournament squads.

What about dropping Kane back down into midfield. He practically does that anyway.

Bring on a quick stiker/Toney and then we have best of both worlds.
