Don't understand why everyone assumes England looked great last week... we looked like amateurs to me. Everyone bombing forward without giving a thought to defending.

Sunday League stuff.

It was progress from what we are used to seeing with England.

We are miles away from the top nations but if we can come out of this World Cup saying that the the future is bright with the likes of Sterling, Barkely etc.. I think it will be viewed as success.

The problem I thought England had against Italy was the lack of pressing, we allowed Pirlo to get space and pass through our midfield line and get their attackers in in our defence in pretty much one move.

All comes down to tactical nous, i think that is an area the English game has suffered over the last 10 years

Knowing when to press, knowing when to 'earn' a foul, knowing when to waste a bit of time

This all counts in international football, Chile perfected it in the second half last night and until we learn our lessons we will always struggle at this level

Draw please

that would be a bad result and if italy win also the last match Uruguay vs Italy would mean Italy can play the 2nd team with them already in the knockouts

ITS A MUST WIN GAME NOT A DONT LOSE GAME

It's almost as if I'm going for Italy..

It has to be a win for England to have a chance to progress. Costa Rica has a similar level of work-rate to Chile and I don't fancy our chances of getting the 3 points in the final game.

Tomorrow will be the day the flags are taken off the car windows and houses and straight in the bin. Uruguay to win 2-0.

If so, i'm curious as to where we go from such a position... we did better in South Africa if so. I'd be tempted to sack Hodgson, he's had plenty of time and he's made us considerably worse, not just in terms of Euros/World Cups, but there is nothing entertaining about Hodgsons football.

His time at Liverpool told us enough about him.
