England vs Switzerland.

Southgate knows his stuff, he's trying to force Spanish style training at youth level and rid of the old outdated system. One of his ideas is to have smaller pitches so they have to pass more, and also to encourage smaller lads to play football as in the past so many have been bullied out of it.

Totally agree, but was Brooking not the man many years ago who was going to update English football from grass roots. Instead he is used now and again as PR propaganda with no discernible improvement in any level of national teams except maybe U21's who did well until getting battered in a final in recent years.

I blame the FA, and the whole set up. Until things change at the top, nothing will change on the pitch. Capello is a top class manager, but England don't have a huge pool of players at his disposal. Even the likes of Ferguson and Mourinho, would find real difficulty to turn this team into world beaters.

I sayd this 100 times from January 11, HOW FGS DOES CAPELLO HAS STILL THIS JOB?

Try saying it once in English!

Oh, right..

How the Fuck, fucking Capello, still has this Job?

Only explanation is someone at FA eating humble pie and having to admit they got it disastrously wrong by appointing him in first place. TBH if they did this they would probably loose their cushy over paid job so ssshhhhh...... say nowt and sneak about

I'm just going to list off some key points I took from this game:

Man of the Match: Annoyingly I would have also gone for Ashley Young, he didn't play well but he did something no other player wearing an England shirt did today. Shoot. The Swiss keeper isn't amazing, we could have just won by pounding his goal with shots but no, someone must have said we where only allowed to score with a header by all the completely unnessessary high balls we where playing

Idiot of the Match
: Glen Johnson. How many times does this guy want to be out of position, how many times does this guy not want to tackle, how many times does this guy not want to pass? We can only hope Glen Johnson is injured for the next game and Micah Richards is allowed to step up.

What needs to change?
: Alot. I'll go through what I feel are the main 3. The players who are these based on past merit, we have this strange factor in our England squads where once a player has his place nailed down it's his until he's injured, I suspect once Gerrard is fit we will have Lampard and Gerrard playing with each again (you know, that thing that never worked) based soley on the past. Even though are team was so much more alive once Lampard left the field.

Secondly, idiotic highballs. Did some passing bird offend the England team or was it actually the plan to hit the ball into the air even in the most dire circumstances.

Thirdly, shooting. Ashely Young is my motm because he used his 'foot' (not head. amazing) to hit the ball towards the goal (not sky in vain hope Darren Bent can fly). While Walcott did well he wasn't what we needed in that game, we needed AJ who would have shot at the goal. We need players who want to score.

Player I feel so sorry for because it's not his fault but the media will blame him: Joe Hart played well, very well in fact. I almost considered him Motm and do you know why? Because he saved alot of goals he shouldn't have had to deal with. I counted three deflected shots on goal thanks to our defense, these are some of the hardest to deal with as they curve and you've got to within a split second change direction and get that ball. Joe Hart did this repeatedly. Moreover, if you look at those two goals Joe Hart had great positioning to deal with shots from the swiss players etc. What he didn't expect was in the case of the first goal not a single player getting a touch, even though Rio looked impossibly close and in the second case Milner shielding the ball from his view whilst also getting out of the way of it. No keeper should have to deal with his wall not actually being a wall...

First it was Capellos fault, then it was FA, sorry but the England team is just terrible. You cant polish a turd.

Yet again a great club manager is the fall guy.

Come on. They can't all be useless

No doubt Ferdinand should not have played, and Barry should have started, but selection and tactics aside, the fact remains that England players are just not comfortable on the ball. And until England players come up to the technical level of foreign players they will struggle

They will qualify as per usual, but don't blame the manager for every shortcoming in the English game.

Well yes, but you have to cut it and not to look on the fucking money. There is no process with him. However, to attack invidual players is wrong too, it was a long Season and this fucking Qualify. Date was just wrong.

If English players are crap (and atm one wouldn´t doubt it) then is it NOT the FA´s fault or are you saying that as sportsmen we are just innately inferior?
Try telling that to our cricketers!

I actually hope England don't qualify for the World Cup.

Only then will people wake up and see that England and The FA need a massive shake-up.

It won't happen. When England missed out on Euro 2008, all we heard from the FA was false promises, "a root and branch" approach to youth development, this centre being built at Burton, we'll change how we bring up our youth players, out with the old in with the new. Did anything change? Nope. Then the WC 2010 qualifying started which England romped, once again the media convinced themselves we're up with the best, Capello has revived England, WC starts, England are shit, back to square one, and false promises, and PR soundbites. Have they even started building this centre at Burton yet? The FA are dinosaurs. These are the same people that appointed Ron Greenwood, when they could have had Brian Clough.
