Sign marquinhos and after five years he can play for england? That is if he isnt called up to the brazil team. In all seriousness tjough their just isnt enough potential in you g english players coming through (at the moment). Shame but true no matter how people try to reason it.

Whatever happened to Max Clayton? Wasn't he going to be amazing?
He's only 18.

Will Hughes is the only English youngster who I'd be interested in us buying, he seems radically different to the typical english player and I reckon a large of part of him not being a bigger name is the type of team he's in, I saw him a few times last year and he was excellent but the runs from the other players completely let him down when he sliced open the opposition. The championship aint the right sort of place for that kind of player and credit to derby for sticking with him.

I think we are one of the few teams in england who he'd really benefit at, our play and passing movement would suit him perfectly.

I am a HUGE proponent of having at least 1/3 of your squad being from the country of the league.

Developing homegrown talents is vital to success of the country, the economy and the league.

England will NEVER fix its NT issues if big teams dont start using more homegrown talent.

Of course, this is a very simplified explanation, but true.

Does EPL not have rules that require a certain number of homegrowns on a roster? Or "non-eu" purchase limits like Serie A for example?

Problem is they aren't good enough. England doesn't develope a large number of really talented players. Maybe you would rahter have a weakened team and have no shot at CL just to satisfy a nationalistic need but I'm not. I don't care what country a players from. I don't care what color he is. If he's good and not a douchbag I want him on the team.

This is how I think about it too. The FA always try to blame Premier league clubs for the lack of quality in the English national team but it is far more their own fault, and even the media's fault. The FA are the ones who appoint the useless coaches at every level of the national team setup, the media are the ones who hype up every promising British player so much that the clubs in the lower leagues try to charge double what they are actually worth. Also we are the only national team that rushes 18-19 year old players into the senior team so quickly. For example, Alex O.C. didn't get to play in the U21 Euros because Woy wanted him sitting on the bench for England's friendlies and WC Qualifiers.

Also who do the FA blame for the lack of English coaches in the Premier league? I'm sure that's the fault of the Premier league clubs too, but who trains the coaches? And why is there literally no English coach that I would be excited about taking over the national team? In fact if I had to choose one, it would probably be Pardew, which says it all.

It's 100% the FA. Until they implement better coaches in the youth system who's focus is developing talent instead of winning games nothing is gonna change. I keep hearing pundits blaming the PL clubs for the lack of talent because they aren't giving young players enough playing time but that hasn't effectd players like Thiago Alcantara, Bruma etc.. who have had big impacts in under 21 and under 20 and are linked with big money transfers, yet have had no real playing time in the top division with their club team.

Butland is really not very good, hideously overrated. His entre reputation is based on half a game in a friendly against Brazils U23s before the Olympics, a perfect example of the english media hyping average players.
Same for McManaman, just another Darren Huckerby type player who breaks onto the scene and looks exciting because he actually takes people on, but doesn't have nearly enough to his game once people realise what he's all about.

i really like Caulker though, looks really classy, unlike the usual english "throw yourself headfirst at a strikers feet" style centerback. I can't imagine Spurs would ever sell him though unfortunately. As much as I hate Rio as a person, he's always been the example of how english CBs should be trying to play and Caulker looks like the most obvious protege. (I actually really like Smalling for this aswell, but he seems to have seriously stalled and been overlooked since the arrival of Duncan Edwards)

The problem is once the player has played 10 times for a championship side, they ask crazy money for them and you can get better value abroad. 17 million Navas v 15 million Saha etc. Tom Ince 8 million. Sours got Van De vart for that price

or 17m + 100k a week for Carrol to score 7 gaols and 4 assists or Michu for 2m and get 18 goals and 2 assists at lower wages.
