Eric Clapton

No doubt Clapton is talented but since Cream he's not someone I've listened to as I find his stuff since Cream boring and predictable. I'm no expert on Clapton though and no doubt @OB1 will disagree.

If I can offer an analogy, I think Hendrix was as exciting as Alex Higgins, whilst Eric Clapton was/is as dull as Terry Griffiths. Old Slow hands; )
I loved Cream but I've not been a Clapton fan since then.
Your analogy is correct.

To be fair to Clapton I think he made a conscious decision to move away from the guitar god 20 min solo type music in the early 70s. Most of his albums since then have been 'song based' (horrible phrase but you get my meaning!).
He had a great tone with Cream, playing Gibson guitars.
After Cream he started using a Strat, and never got the same fierce attack.
Gibson guitars have humbucking pickups he played these through a Marshall stack with Cream and Mayall.
IMO he's never sounded this good since.
