Controversial. But he has the best sense of positioning of all our defenders I've watched. Small sample size. But so far he is miles ahead of most of our other defenders.

For me this guy needs to become "Peps project", the chances of us pulling Liverpool back are remote and as such this is an ideal opportunity to give Garcia a good run of games.

Who knows, the guy may save us £100 million in the long run that could then be utilised elsewhere.

He's looked good for his age and has some outstanding attributes. However, I'm not getting too excited just yet.

As others have pointed out the physical side will almost certainly get exposed and he'll need to work hard on his strength, jumping and pace.

If he can build on those areas then he's a star in the making. If not, he'll be a dependable back up option but never our number 1 or 2 CB.

Pep Guardiola on @ericgm3: "He doesn't make mistakes. He's so clever, and he's intelligent in his movements. It's not easy playing on the left side because he's right-footed. I'm not a nice guy, I would give an opportunity for him to play on the right side..."

"He sees things so well. He's a guy that doesn't make mistakes. He's intelligent. He's helped us in this period with a lot of problems!"

Definitely should be looking at giving Garcia more games as he looks like a bloody good defender.

He is still growing physically and mentally.

He seems to read the game well and is good at passing and interceptions.

If he gets game time. In another couple of years he could be one of the regulars at 20/21 years of age.

Look stones isnt shite, only kompany partnered nico and looked solid. When stones is next to laporte he looks good. Bring in koulibaly and with Garcia that is a solid 4 cbs. With THB slotting in to the 4 with any injuries and we are sorted for a long time.

We may have to agree to disagree regarding Stones. Happy with Laporte and Koulibaly though.

Do all the "too short" people realize he's pretty much the same height as Otamendi right now? Serious question, because he's definitely continued growing over the last 18 months or so from when we first saw him. This might all be a moot point.

From his Champions League start (credit to @charlie9872), compare to Otamendi standing on his toes (amusingly):

Even if Garcia is taller, Otamendi is more dominant in the air. He's more physical which helps him. That being said it's about the only thing he's better than Garcia at the moment. IMO Garcia is better with 3 at the back for the time being. If he plays in a back 4 he'd get targeted. The opposition will test him and lump balls into their center forward. In a back 3 he has help as Dinho can shift over and double team the CF. Also because it's a back 3 he can get to balls played behind our left back quicker which is another target area for the opposition. In due time he can play in a back 4 as long as his partner is the one with pace and physicality.

He has proved he should have been in the team right from the start of Laporte's injury, people need to concern themselves less about his height and move onto the fact he covers so well and tackles but his distribution and calmness for a young defender are brilliant and the fact is with more game time against "men" he will just keep on improving.

We have to be careful who we buy in the summer, if we pick up two world stars and leave him back at 4th choice again, he will leave and return to Barca as Mr Shakira did at Utd.

I think his smaller build is also highlighting his height. People then automatically refer to him as small.

Once he puts on some more muscle and his body matures it'll be much less of an issue, as it is for Otamendi.
