We won't ever really know what Barcelona offered, but at the enf of the day, whatever it is, the club didn't think it appropriate. Heck even if it was all of the money asked for up front, and no sell on that the club wanted, i still support them for turning it down.
And accirding to reports, it was nowhere near, it was 50% of what we wanted.
This one is all on Barcelona. City named a price months ago, and didn't accept anything less. Barcelona are the ones that wasted the summer lowballing and pounding their chests, and ended up with nothing, other than sore chests. Could have had him if they wanted him.
Im so so glad the club stood firm. It isn't spite. When we take less than market value for players we respect, to get their desired move through to lesser clubs (edin, tosin, angelino), i respect that too, i find it as admirable as i do naive. But when the big clubs act out to put us at a competitive disadvantage and save themselves money, im all for the club showing some balls.
As for what happens next, sure, Barcelona can have him in January. If they pay say 10m (that they offered yesterday). That seems a fair drop for halfway through the season. Or he can sign a pre contract and they can have him for free in june, plus whatever the tribunal sets.
As for garcia, really don't care. He is contracted to the club, if they want to loan him out, have him train with eds, or feature in CL (not that i want that) then that is what he should do. Personally, i don't want him playing, but if he is deemed needed, i trust he will be professional about it.
I really am glad of the stances we took this summer. with garcia, And koulibaly. Should make future transfer negotiations a bit more considerate.
