Saw few report putting him at 12k, might be they missed out on us bumping his initial salary.

We don't generally make it anybody's business when City hike pay within the context of an existing contract, certainly when it comes to the younger kids.

City don't want to add any extra pressure on their shoulders.

Obviously different if it's a completely new contract.

If I walk into a shop and there's no price on it but the shopkeeper sets a price based on who I am or what I look like, I will happily leave empty handed. Try again
If the shop keeper owns it you can buy it or go somewhere else and try and get one cheaper
If you really want it you can still buy it but pay the price quoted
If you can’t afford it you will be disappointed but may pick it up later if it’s in the sale
Alternatively the shopkeeper may be offended by you wasting his time, throw you out and ask you not to come back

all depends how much you want this thing

City put a price on Garcia.. Barcelona wouldn't pay it.. So Garcia stays till next year.. End of discussion... Unless Barcelona are willing to pay in January.

Would rather have the money in the bank.

We now have 2 unhappy CB at the club.

Garcia wanted out and Stones who the club were happy to leave to go to Spurs on loan.
Neither player said anything about being unhappy. Garcia said he would not renew at the end of his contract, he didn't demand to leave now, Stones apparently wants to stay to get his place back. Now we have 5 centre backs + Harwood-Bellis to cover injuries, potential Covid outbreaks and having to play 3 games a week, they will all get games. They are both professionals and I doubt City would have them around if they were "unhappy" as opposed to doing their job and fighting hard for game time.

I assumed you were using said figure to back up your argument between the shortfall in the valuations?

No biggie.

No, and just to clarify on the contract thing (Yes, I was being cheeky) I never assumed you or anyone else was wrong from the outset. I just read things from a couple of reliable journalists that it was indeed not clear '21 vs '22 and the only reason why I suggested that perhaps it was indeed last year of his contract & not 2 years - fueling the possibility his exit might be a possibility. In the end, that was the case but I did not start out certain of anything apart from there being conflicting info

Of course there is a point in negotiations but the point of talking is arriving at a mutually beneficial deal our your position being less bad than at the start.

Our position it much worse than at the opening of negotiations as far as I can tell
But not in the club's view which is why they held out.
