Real's finances are as murky as they get. Its hard to say what sort of position they are in but I doubt it's anything other than precarious! Getting the bigger earners of the books was no doubt a necessity not a strategic play. They are lucky they did it before covid hit. Irrespective of what some media have speculated over how serious the bidding for Mbappe was in the summer, they were publicly bidding £160m for a player out of contract in 12 months time.
Serious or not, it's hardly strengthening their negotiating position for the future purchase of any player by claiming they have big money burning a hole in their pocket.
Yes they probably have some room to manoeuvre but it would suprise me to see them shopping in the bargian bin come the end of the summer 22 transfer window.
