Two words - Gareth Bale

£31.2m a year.

Same reason they let Varane and Ramos leave, to get their wage bill down.

Irrespective of what some media have speculated over how serious the bidding for Mbappe was in the summer, they were publicly bidding £160m for a player out of contract in 12 months time.

Serious or not, it's hardly strengthening their negotiating position for the future purchase of any player by claiming they have big money burning a hole in their pocket.
Real's finances are as murky as they get. Its hard to say what sort of position they are in but I doubt it's anything other than precarious! Getting the bigger earners of the books was no doubt a necessity not a strategic play. They are lucky they did it before covid hit. Barca held out too long and have been burned.

Yes they probably have some room to manoeuvre but it would suprise me to see them shopping in the bargian bin come the end of the summer 22 transfer window.

Always the case, but the issue for us (or mainly Pep) is he only wants players who are absolutely committed to joining us, and we still don't have that, certainly from Mino.

I did not know Haaland has an apartment in Madrid?

It is a long term investment but he does use it just for him and his family.
So a free Mbappa albeit massive wages, signing fee etc then a huge outlay on Haaland

£125m x 2 in 5 year wage deal, possibly £25m signing fee for Mbappa + agent fees then £50m outlay for Haaland, Raiola & Alfie you are talking around £400m double deal over 5 years
Thats easy for a club like Real even when Spain is wank they can still pull massive deals off
The other blocker for Haaland would be Pep leaving imo but who knows if rolling 12 months deal could kick in

If we don't see a pre contract attempt in Jan then its not happening, these deals like Hazard, Lewandowski, Naymar are sorted a few months before
The thing is Madrid are going to struggle to register Mbappe and Haaland. La ligas new ffp rules fucked Barca over it will fuck madrid over as well unless they get rid of high wages.
Probably get both for around £400-450m over 5 years with a free Mbappa only Haaland £65m fee the rest in signing on fee, wages & agent fees, over 5-6 years its easy for a club like Real

100m a year is a massive chunk of their annual income. No club can do that.

Real Madrid’s front three next season will be Mbappe, Benzema and Vinicius Jr. All three are stars who will be relevant in the World Cup and that’s Madrid’s plan going into the 2022 Qatar year. It is a VERY strong front three. You talk to very well informed Madrid fans and they see there is no way Haaland ends up there next season. You listen to that club’s local media mouthpieces and you constantly hear the “forget it” message to their fans.

The only thing that happened in the past few days was Raiola asked by a Madrid journalist on the street and giving a polite answer: “Haaland likes, loves Spain. Especially his house here. But It's too early to know where he's going to play next year. I'm not talking about the market, because it's very early.” This means absolutely nothing.

If Raiola has a master plan that Haaland should only leave Dortmund for Madrid, which I doubt very much, what would happen is he would stay at Dortmund for yet another season, and only join after the next season if Madrid is ready to get rid of Benzema. But even in that scenario, you would still need other factors, especially La Liga related.

The only rational competition I can see for us next summer, when all the signs point to him leaving Germany, is Manchester United. Alfie Haaland seems to me a smart enough observant of current affairs to know the Premier League is the hottest league for a player like his son at the moment.

of course we'll be "played" by raiola, madrid will also be "played" by him. that's how it works. that's how he does business. that's his job, get the most amount of money, make both teams think the other team are leading the race, and make both teams think the player wants to play for the other team. that gets teams to shell out the big bucks.

It's not a coincidence that all of the madrid media are saying madrid thinks haaland wants to go to the PL and that he's city bound, because that's the message they are getting from raiola. Whereas when raiola talks to us, the message is different - we seem to think he prefers madrid.

At the end of the day, one of the teams will finish the deal, we have to play raiola's game.

Roy Keane enjoys this post.

They are in desperate need of a CM and a CB too. If you assume Mbappe and Pogba are nailed on, that's already colossal wages that will probably match all those departures or get close to it. I doubt that they will prioritize a second striker over a proper CB purchase, particularly if they cant sell Hazard which I think they probably won't be able to outside of a deal where they get hosed. Mino might want it, but that wage increase is astronomical, even with departures.

Worth noting they just extended Benzema’s contract quite recently too. Not sure how him, Mbappe and Haaland would work but I guess this is Madrid we are talking about.

Total non-starter. Haaland won’t play for Madrid next season.
