Call me pessimistic, but I have no faith in us getting a player as sought after as Haaland.

Pessimistic ? - yes, but we have a history of being at the table but we rarely land the big fish as you say, but, our recruitment strategy has served us well to date under this regime - so we have nothing to complain about.

Win the league, win a cup & at least get to the final of chumps league & we stand a good chance on signing him.

if we don’t & he thinks pep might be going in a year or so he will look elsewhere in my opinion.

would be the perfect striker for city

Rarely do the stars align like this. Father played for our club, most clubs are skint, clear need for a striker in the team, title winning season, release clause activated in a year so need to sell, sell on fee for Sancho. So many reasons we should get this over the line, and if we don’t, we’ve missed the next big thing when we need a striker more than ever.

Pep will be here for at least 2 years, there isn't another club where he knows who the manager will be in 6 months.

I just think if we flop out of champs league & he knows pep is still trying to build for it with only 2 years left his head could be turned to Bayern or more likely PSG. Although PSG might work in our favour with mbape then being sold to make way.

I just think most modern players think very short term & want champs league (not that there is any guarantee). Who ever gets him have a very good chance of winning it for me. If we clean up with trophies I think we have to be top of his list

I think you may be overthinking that. He will go to where he is offered the most money, shirley as simple as that?

Lol I can dream and surely the city shirt is worth more than money :-) we should be offering his dad an ambassador role too to push the deal over the line

You seemed to suggest it was an accident, it wasn’t we reacted and moved quickly when the opportunity arose. Back to Haaland, if we want him and if he wants to come, if he’s affordable,I’m sure we’ll be ready to move and seal the deal. We will have alternatives lined up too and will keep all our options open until a deal is sealed

We were linked with Dias a whole season before we signed him, we tried back then, it wasn't affordable. Definately not an accident, or 4th choice or whatever people argue.

In fact, i'd go as far as saying he was our first choice, koulibaly and kounde were the alternatives, and when the club saw what their price was, went back in for dias, when paying top money might as well get top. Nico was a good sweetener.

Back to Haaland, if we are interested, the effort will be there, as will the money, just as there was with kevin, laporte, rodri etc. The haggling will depend on the confidence that he wants us, which we have most often had the luxury of.

A gesture like that would have been more meaningful and sincere after his career ending injury sustained representing us
Very true. We could offer a room alone with Roy Keane for 5 mins in the press office too I suppose. I’m sure father & son could have a word with keane about that.

could be a good point you raise though. Did city handle his dad well after his injuries. Could be a big factor

I dont believe he will, whichever club he chooses have the ability to pay varying degrees of astronomical wages,so i suspect, given his very obvious passion and love for the game....he will go where he has the best opportunity to excel and win trophies.

Totally agree.

It’s the perfect transfer and the perfect time. He is a monster of a player and looks pretty much guaranteed to make it to the very top.

If we don’t get this over the line, Txiki will get pelters on here especially if he ends up at another English club.

Im pretty pessimistic of it happening purely based on our recent track record (dating back to the likes of Hazard and Sanchez the first time round) of signing our first choice targets.

Might be a daft question but how sure are we that we are def in for him? Are we just basing it on what we hope for? Or newspaper gossip? Or have we had any reliable info?

Listen, Dias has worked out well for us, but we only got him because he couldn’t find another team that wanted Nico earlier. And again, Zinny has been class this season, but he was supposed to go so we could get a proper LB. And that’s just last summer
And we're not playing FIFA either. Dias is a credit to Txiki's method, he was option C
