If he only stays 3 years that's cheaper from a Birthday cake perspective.

Fucking hell I could just scoff any one of them right now.

If Barcelona/Madrid were not both skint, and could afford to sign Haaland right now, it is highly likely he would be going to Spain at the then end of this season.

As it happens they dont have a Pot to piss in.
Barcelona have just concluded a €280m deal over 4 years with Spotify.
Ground now going to be called Spotify Camp Nou to go along with shirt sponsorship.
Not sure if it can go towards Haaland but its a lot of money nevertheless

I don't remember Aguero or Silva signing a 10yr contract when they signed, look what happened....

Contracts mean nothing unless you don't have one.
Looks like Alfie & Mino are putting their, and Erling’s, financial future in place IF the reports of a 3 yr deal are anywhere close to accurate.

I can only assume that it is incorrect as reported, as it would mean amortization of his deal over a significantly shorter period, and thus much more costly on a FFP basis.

I MIGHT be able to see where, after 3 years, a suitably large Release Clause is put in place to recoup investment AND allow him to move on. That would allow the three of them to get another large payday, and City to get both a nice transfer fee and a large opening in our wage bill for a potential replacement.

However, it’s hard to see how City could accept anything other than an initial 5-6 year deal, even if only for the purposes of FFP amortization, with the understanding that he and his advisors may be actively looking for another pay day in 3 years.

Conversely, maybe there’s a “Pep” Release Clause, such that it also kicks in at the end of Pep’s contract or his separation as manager.

These deals are getting ever more complicated, given the ability of players to command so many caveats and riders to their contracts today.

The Bosman ruling and the 12 month/last season “countdown” have dramatically changed the balance of power between the top players and the clubs seeking their labor…and I have no problems with that!

P.S. And cake! LOTS OF CAKE!!!
