Erling Haaland

He may only want to come to us today, but 12 months+ is a long time in football. I'm in agreement that it's going to be this summer or not at all. What would we as a team do for next season as well? We won't be content just spinning our wheels, that's for sure.

yeah be interesting how it’s going to play out this summer but one thing is certain we won’t be paying silly money to Haaland or Dortmund..

It’s why I said if Haaland only wants to come to us..
Pep’s confident repost to the media about this transfer suggests to me he only wants him if the player wants us and the numbers are sensible. His further elaboration about money being tight across all clubs including ours also suggests that he thinks there is no chance that the fees being speculated will happen.

So yes I agree he has to want to come here.

Let other clubs that can't afford it fight over him, if he wants to come and he doesn't want diva stipulations then it's good. If there is any truth in the demands that he and his agent wants then we shouldn't deal with the madness.
Pretty much, but at this stage I’d be cutting the player a bit of slack. His agent probably caused the shit show last week and will be telling his client that they need to generate competition in order to put pressure on City to meet the asking price and offer better terms. This tactic clearly failed. I’m starting to believe that City use the transfer process to identify players who are motivated by finances because this is a red flag that they won’t fit in at our club.

Absolutely. City only but players who want to be with us, not for the money. The way we handled Sanchez was a template.

I'll wait until I see him but I don't think a player who has been outscored by TImo Werner is necessarily that impressive.

Four of the six group stage games of the Champions League are easier than Premier League games for City because they are against Tier 3 and 4 seeds.

He maybe brilliant. He may also be over-rated and there maybe better alternatives.

Shit interpretation of stats, not watching a player until they are up against City, then analyzing them off one or two matches. Blue moon hat trick right there!

It's naïve to think that players who want to come to us won't also want to maximise their earnings though
Does anyone seriously believe that if this kid signs for City he won’t be offered a contract that reflects the fact that he’s one of the most exciting prospects in world football? We’ll work with him and his agent to make sure that he’s well rewarded but we won’t be held to ransom.

I think this is an interesting angle because of what happened with Garcia last summer. City were talking to Barca and then Garcia mouthed off to the Spanish press that he would never sign another City contract. At that point City stopped all negotiation. This seems counter intuitive, surely you just cut your losses. So why stop, and hold onto Garcia only to lose him on a free?

Because by speaking publicly Garcia had taken things beyond this single issue, and put himself in the crossfire of a wider, longer term issue: City's negotiating approach. If they had conceded on anything after Garcia spoke publicly, it would have sent a message to other City players and potential buying clubs: you can bully City in a transfer negotiation. Complain publicly and City will back down, your new club will get an X% discount. In this way, Garcia made it impossible for City to sell him. The long term cost was too high.

Along these lines I wonder what impact Mino's parade will have had. If I was in Txiki's place I'd be thinking "If I up my offer now I will simply encourage this sort of behaviour." Based on Pep's comments that appears to be the way City are thinking. It seems less likely to me that we'll sign Haaland now, not because we can't up our offer but because if we DO up the offer then we're locking ourselves into this sort of transfer saga for a decade or more. Add to that the contract negotiation sagas with our current squad.

Bring me Andre Silva in a quick, Bernardo style, under the radar signing and I'll be happier than 4 months of public negotiation and obscene headlines to get Haaland through the door. This approach has not done much good for United in recent years.

I'd love for us to get Haaland (think Kanes style suits us better but the age difference edges it to Haaland) but I can't see us overpaying for him or destroying the club wage structure and I wouldn't want us to

We have one of the most complete squads, if not the most complete, in world football

Everyone is panicking as Aguero is off, he's going to be huge to replace...but without him this season (I mean he's done FA this year) we are going to win the league....and are one of the favourites for the champions league

Our attack (as we don't rely on stirker for goals) is already set.....

We have a future Balon D'Or level talent in Foden already at the club

Bernardo, Sterling and Jesus are still young and coming into their primes

Mahrez is in the form of his life

Torres is a phenomenal talent, Delap is a player highly rated

I can't see any other team matching the fee Dortmund want

So it'll go to next season when his release clause is activated....then its a bidding war

Then it'll likely come down to whoever pays the most, so we will probably miss out...we aren't going to offer him €500k or so a week so he either joins us because he wants to or he goes somewhere else

And the club won't suffer for it, Haalnd strikes me the type to want to dominate (his mentality reminds me of Ronaldo)...can't see him being a one team player, he will move to a few clubs so the door won't be closed if we miss out this summer

Just hope he doesn't go to the Dippers if it's not us

Mino’s actions last week were disastrous, his tactics were obvious, amateurish and desperate. Shame Alfie had to be involved really. Pep put him well and truly in his place and he’s quickly having to row back to recover the situation. I get the feeling he’s used to dealing with amateurs and dictating the agenda, he needs to wise up pretty quick that he’s met his match this time. City will walk away if we get the vibe that this is a money motivated player, a change of tone is required from the Haaland camp and I expect to see one.
Agree 100 per cent with this. The biggest stumbling block to Haaland's career is Raiola. That public performance last week was disastrous for the player's reputation. Haaland's fantastic but Mino's tour of Europe shows a total lack of respect to all the clubs who might buy him, including us, and especially Dortmund. Pep has always said that he only wants players who want to come to our club. That was no bluff in his press conference. If we get the slightest sniff that Haaland is "just about money" we will walk away.

Bring me Andre Silva

I can’t believe people will really get me to start defending Mino fucking Raiola here. But I guess here we are.

There is legitimately nothing wrong what happened last week. NOTHING AT ALL. This is literally the same thing he and Alf did before he joined Dortmund. As far as we know, it is Alf who really wants to hear from the clubs interested on his son. And he should — if he eventually thinks that a different club is offering a better sporting project, then maybe that’s where he should advise his son to go.

If people still can’t figure out that the picture taken at Barcelona was a shameless set up by the Barcelona president, I also can’t help them. A little cynicism would have helped. There were no pictures taken at Madrid, no pictures taken in London. They were used. The same guy who knew when they would arrive to send them a car also let the paparazzi know... coincidentally a paparazzi from a media vehicle that has consistently put out his propaganda. At least we now know where Haaland will never play for.

If we try that, we'll get gazumped. This summer, or not at all.

he's 20. If isn't this summer, probably might not be next (unless he wants to come here regardless), but plenty of time yet to get him, in his prime too, if he is the right player at the right time, and at the right price.
