Erling Haaland

The real brilliance of the goal is the calmness he shows to not take it with his right foot, but turn back on to his left, despite it being the quickest and easiest option, even with a player grounded and in his eye line.
He doesn't want it on his right foot but has complete confidence in his physicality being able to get rid of even Upamecano. Most players would stick their leg out like that to win a penalty but he wants to score there and then.

His body strength is the brilliance, players and big strong players including our very own Dias just bounce off him, he is a beast.

I'm sure he doesn't want it on his right, but it's still the quickest route to goal when it's out of his feet like that.

He's already running wide of the goal - I would equate it to Sergio running inside the penalty area at United when he scored off balance with his right into the roof of the net.

Haaland shows incredible calmness not to take the first shot on when he's already gone beyond Upemancano.

I don't think that's somebody who only wants it on one foot, more maybe somebody who has that incredible ability to slow things down in his own mind when most players panic?

I'd compare it to seeing Lewandowski when he was at Dortmund.

We have been reluctant to really spend big on one player, reluctant to get involved in an auction for a player and quite rightly so, but for once, I hope we throw caution out of the window and do everything to sign this guy, he is the real deal, a generational talent.

Allegedly we had the money, special money for Messi, we let's hope the club use that and get Little Alf this summer.

This already wasn’t the case when we were willing to spend what was needed to sign Mbappe in the same window PSG got him. 120M. Money wasn’t the issue then. And this is the same kind of opportunity presenting itself again (there hasn’t been another since Mbappe for us)

His body strength is indeed brilliant, and the hard work had seemingly been done, yet he makes it even more special by turning back on to his left, the percentages to then miss is far greater, coming back into traffic.

It actually leaves the goalkeeper flat footed, as he is expecting Haaland to take the shot on immediately.

Agree.

Moreover Pep has stated that we cannot afford Haaland (I've never known Pep to lie); and our best side is without a designated striker.

IMO - we don't pursue Haaland or any top striker next window. Instead we strengthen at mid and continue to mostly play w/o a striker next season.

Not a chance, we will not sign a world class striker this summer.

Pep has just publicly stated Arsenal will improve next season, so there goes you not lying theory!

It's been pointed out before, but Pep didn't say we couldn't afford Haaland, he said we couldn't afford him at the price being quoted

"Pep has stated that we cannot afford Haaland" at the ridiculous sums being touted.

Edit: beaten to it :)

Reports when Aguero's departure was announced said he'd been told we were signing another #9 this summer so I really doubt that. All reports point to us buying a striker this year.

He wasn’t talking about any particular player and as it has been discussed here, it was a play to stop the media from linking us to a dozen different strikers... every week. I remember the morning of that interview, an Italian paper had on its cover “City wants Lukaku, but Inter won’t take less than (a crazy amount, I don’t remember exactly what)”. It was getting out of control.
