Erling Haaland

I don't think Pep will ever go for a big player fee and be held hostage of the investment, this does not align well with his philosophy to rotate and create competition between players, you can't just buy a 100+M player and put him on the bench.

All this talk about Mbappe and Haaland I just don't see it happening, Club's credit card has a 60M limit per transaction :)
I think this will be an exception. Pep knows an elite striker is our only real lacuna (ok, there's also penalty-taking, but a striker could solve that also). I doubt we will be penny wise/pound foolish in replacing Kun.

for certain players. That was around the limit for a DM, and a CB. Strikers are more expensive. We were happy to pay £50M-ish for Sterling 5 years ago. KdB the same. I would not be surprised to see a £100M-ish signing this summer.

Haaland rumours did start a while a go, the same did Ruben Dias rumours did start 2 years before he did sign. See the same pattern i other players also, so i think Erling Braut will sign this summer. Guessing 85m.
Lautaro Martinez is rumoured to sign a new contract with Internazionale this year.
Patson Daka can be Haalands replecement in Dortmund if he dont end up in RB Leipzig.

Yes lol that’s exactly why were after Messi. Because we’re afraid of the investment. Not only Haaland, but also Kane, Lukaku... huge fees. Star strikers cost big money. We will be replacing our star, with a star. And your argument is easily disproved by looking at Pep’s history at Barcelona and Bayern. I totally understand the “I don’t see it happening” bit of your comment, because yes, for our club it will be an unusual deal. But you will see it happening, my friend.

Be some piss boiling if there is : )

For me Haaland and Reyna and that’s us done. Everyone else stays and Mendy would be the only one to go. We’d be set for years.

if we could get Messi as well it would be unreal.

Haaland and Reyna, thought it was 2003 for a second then.

What’s Paul Bosvelt’s son like let’s complete the set!

Now I said first draft pick to represent he‘s the best young player who everyone wants.
The term is from the NFL and is how teams recruit young players from college football.
From what I understand (and not being American I could get this wrong( is that each team is ranked in the draft process in reverse order to where they finished the prior year in the league,so the bottom team has the first choice of new players (though trading goes on so its not quite that simple)
But the first draft pick hence represents the best young player available.
Correct

United paid 90M for Pogba 4 years ago, almost what it cost us to buy both Kdb and Sterling, you probably remember the Chairman's interview from a couple years back saying the Club looks for young value players, and there will be a biding war for Haaland.

I think we are doing just fine without an "elite striker", you always hear Pep bragging we are not a "One Man" team. We don't have Ronaldo or Mbappe, he just said it again yesterday.

One way I can see this happening is for Haaland to really want to come to City and runs down his contract ala Sane so we can get him for a bargain price

We are playing the best football without our two star players, I would rather add depth to the team than splash big money on a player, that is something United will do.

You want to build a team that is bigger than the sum of its players, exactly like we are playing now, that seems to be the philosophy of the Club right now.

You seem to be having a good go at convincing people we shouldnt/dont need him......one of the best young and up anc coming strikers in the world with Kun coming to the end of his career with us and needing replacing.

I share some of your points about bidding war that may happen BUT we should be absolutely in that war for him if it happens.
As good as we have been this season we are not clinical upfront.....Sterling, Jesus, Mahrez are all very wasteful in front of goal and as Pep alluded to recently in the big games, that can com back to haunt you.
Haaland is a great finisher, he wants to develop and improve if you watch interviews with him...so thre is no reason he couldnt adapt to what Pep wants (being more flexible/team player) just like Aguero has done (plenty on here saying that Kun wouldnt be able to do that and he has proved them very wrong over the last few years)

If there is any chance of getting him we should be all over him

Add depth? Just how deep can do you think we can make the squad?

Hate the mentality of some of our fans who really think going for a star quality player and marquee signing once a decade is the end of the world. It’s pretty obvious that by all reports coming from different trusted corners we are interested in him and will go big for him. Accept that and move on.

Pep signed Lewandowski when at Bayern and to this day he’s there scoring loads of goals for them. This could be our Lewandowski, someone who will learn from Pep and stay after he’s gone.

But where do we need to add depth to? Striker & LB. We're looking to replace the most lethal striker in Premier League history. Might as well get the best option available.

Don't get me wrong I will love to see him join us and we do need a striker to replace Aguero and create competition for Jesus.

Just looking at recent signings he just does not fit the profile in terms of price, you will need to overpay to get him which does not align with the strategy of the Club targeting targeting value players, which I think is the right approach. Only time will tell.

It’s not overpaying if he turns out to be our Lewandowski. Bayern would’ve payed whatever it took if they knew what he would do for them. With Haaland, the potential is the same if not bigger. It will turn out that we will look back in the future and think we payed under what he was worth. And no one in the 20-25 age bracket out there has similar potential. Paying what it will take for Haaland is smart; paying what it would take for the older alternatives like Kane and Lukaku? Not so smart, I think. If reports are true that Pep extended his contract because he was promised big signings and renewing the squad, Haaland seems the least we could do, or try.

Thanks for bringing the Lewandowski example, it was a very good business for Bayern since he joined them for free.

Again this is not about what I want or don't, but the likelihood of this happening which is very unlikely. It will be even harder to justify to the board since we are on track win the league.

You’re acting as if the board doesn’t want it lol. And how is Lewandowski joining Bayern for free a factor at all? Like I said, they would have payed what it took if they knew the results he’d bring. The example stands. I’m curious as to who you would want as a “value signing”. Who’s the good free option you see out there? Or would you rather be stuck with Danny Ings (a joke) or maybe worse, Darwin Nunez (disappointingly bad again today in the Portuguese league — I saw the game)?

What is a Scottie Pippin?
