Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Big mistake last night. Was in the Citizens (gave my season ticket to a friend), which I have done a few times. There have always been the odd table of away fans that clearly buy hospitality if they cant tickets in the away end, especially when they sell out their allocation. But last night there were loads - it felt like sitting at Elland Road. Together with all the early leavers (Blues and Leeds) it was a horrendous experience. Why does City allow so many away fans into hospitality?? Anyway...thats the last time I do that...but clearly that's the model - fuck the legacy fans, fill the stadium with prawn-cocktail munching plastics - and who cares who they support?

Not good this. I wonder if it’ll take a major disturbance for the club to sort this out?

Their fan base extends to most of Yorkshire or so they like to tell everyone so that actually makes these attendance figures worse.

Not exactly marching on together…
Back in the seventies was on Victoria Station on a Satutday lunchtime and was astonished how many Leeds fans were travelling over from Lancashire for their match. Some months later was staying in Bradford then fourth division, and going to see City at Leeds . No Leeds fans on the platform, but the platform opposite packed with rags on the way to OT. Think it was 74 75 season great game at Elland Rd 2 2 draw came back twice and a very late equaliser felt like a win . Scary walk to and from the station but lived to tell the tale. Always think of Leeds as one of the big clubs of the English game and as they hate the rags have a soft spot for them these days

To be fair they do have a very large and loyal fan base through thick and thin like we do. I have a lot of connections with the city of Leeds through work and family. It’s a great city to go out in and for gigs and concerts. Probably a lot of them singing about WWYWYWS weren’t even born when we packed out Maine Rd in Div 2 v Blackpool ! It’s banter at the end of the day and they know it . We’d do the same if it was us.

On Leeds fans they’ve still got proper fans as I would call them at home at elland rd rather vocal which is cool. I remember the days of real rivalry between city and Leeds at both grounds between both sets of fans it was definitely squeaky bum time. That said I hope they stay up. Premier league needs big clubs like Leeds United.

Of course Away fans are going to be in hospitality. They are the easiest tickets to buy. At least the Leeds fans were buying expensive tickets to help with our Haaland budget.
