Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Six new turnstiles for the South Stand by the time of the PSG game so more peole should be able to get in on time. They just need to return after half time lol.
That was mentioned by @Prestwich_Blue in another thread but no details of how many. Is it six new ones and do you know where in SS? M1 will be getting a couple more I hope as I reckon it is the entrance with the highest number needing to use it.

We don’t get mocked for our atmosphere, that criticism comes from within our own fans who rightly want to improve it.

We get mocked for our empty seats

Our seats aren’t empty though - that’s just a myth perpetuated by idiots.
You’ll know the score but a lot of folk should check the stats - for instance, we have a higher average attendance and higher seat occupancy than liverpool (which is where the deluded ‘empty seat’ propaganda arises).

You are correct on the stats of it; but they don’t take into account people with season tickets who don’t turn up for whatever reason, tickets the club give to tout/tour sites that don’t sell but are included in the attendance figures as sold, players’ tickets that aren’t taken up but are included in attendance figures as sold.

I reckon the Family Stand has only ever been full to capacity for the title winning/trophy lift games, yet hundreds of games have been “sold out”.

Of course, in these Covid times it’s inevitable we will have deferrals, people isolating, people not wanting to travel on public transport with so many not wearing masks and not being vaccinated etc. that people won’t or can’t attend. But our attendance figures aren’t necessarily accurate to the actual attendance coming through he turnstiles.

I’m also quite comfortable that we have fluctuating attendances. It’s a natural thing for clubs that aren’t glory hunted.

They review is being kiboshed. There will be no drinking at seats for a long time.

According to The Times, the review will call for a pilot scheme allowing alcohol to be drank in stadium seats for clubs in the National League and League Two. Should that trial be a success, the review hopes the initiative can be rolled out to all levels of the professional game, including the Premier League

No surprise, the Police are against it.

It took decades to get Safe Standing introduced, with people in football, politics, and fans of certain clubs, 1 club in particular, even though their fans regulary stand on the KOP ;-), campaigning against the introduction of Safe Standing at Football matches. Every excuse was used to block the introduction of Safe Standing. Reports and feasibility studies were done on numerous occasions, covering the same ground and apparent issues, with the same outcome, Safe Standing is safe. And that has turned out to be the case, surprise, surprise.

It’s a pain in the neck at the rugby, I hope it’s not introduced! Beer slung over people regularly and people in-and-out to the bar and a piss all through games.

City fans alcys and piss heads? Since when is that news?

We never win at home .............
Yeah, it's hardly news. City fans are arguably the biggest pissheads in English football and while I'm forever bemoaning our atmospheres, for a lot of people it's never just been about the football - following City is a social event. I remember the Yew Tree pub at Villa one year and the landlord saying no other away fans bar perhaps Newcastle took over his pub in such numbers. Most away fans are in the ground or in their seats 15-20 minutes before kick-off. Not City. Most blues on an away day are still in the pub 15-20 minutes before kick-off ordering another pint!

Agree with you here. Yesterday the empty areas in the singing section appeared even more noticeable than usual too. Would probably help all around the ground if fans arrived on time prior to the teams emerging. It is striking the number of people who arrive 5-10 mins after kick off then leave 5- 10 mins before the half time whistle, returning to their seats after the game restarts and then leaving 5-10 mins before the final whistle. They must pay for approximately half a game, feels like that anyway.

at KO the concourse is very busy, people wanting to sing surely you want to greet the team out not finish a pint you got at 2.55pm and try to look through the gaps at the concourse gates.

what got me Vs burnley was the surge of fans on 27 mins going back towards the concourse ( 115 area ). Surely bar was not open this early, perhaps bursting for a p**s. But huge amount of fans walking through.

there where odd spells of songs throughout the game but the last 25 mins peaked with john stones song, guardiola and singing the blues. Was very loud. Shame when john stones came to lower south stand to clap over half the fans had gone.

Thought those kids in CBL3 were brilliant. Mainly for the reaction it got up there. What the fck is going on? Singing? Who are they? You would have thought that Harry the Dog and F Troop had invaded the stand. Well funny.
"Harry the Dog".
Now there's a name that I haven't heard in a long,long time.

South Level 3 was good again on Saturday especially with no away fans to bounce off for the 3rd out of 4 league games this season, petered out a bit second half as it was always going to in a game such as that where the opposition is still wasting time whilst 1-0 down. Perked up again last 15 when the united score filtered through.

Genuinely not a clue what some people expect with a 3pm kick off against Burnley, its hardly going to be the bastard El Monumental

It was a school trip they were all at kids zone also, thought they were great for a while they got the whole usually very quiet block 326 section going, didn't last long but was entertaining.

Watching from overseas in China and it seems flat (not just tension) every game. Started to question if the media are positioning microphones in the car park. My Dad has my seasoncard in the CB upper reaches, and I hope he's roaring.

Other fans of other clubs will always notice one empty seat or one quiet moment. I always say, we're too busy enjoying the silky football and really absorbing it. The Etihad when it bounces is Elysium, nothing beats it. But, when the voices fall silent, it is a big space.

Thought the atmos was good on Saturday. Burnley were very quiet. The high point for me was the Burnley fan being ‘held back by his mates’ from entering the East Stand to chin someone.

yeah indeed. was in 110 or 109 and obvs not the most electric of atmospheres's but it was never gonna be that v burnley but good times anyway.

There’s definitely something in that. I’ve watched games back like the United 2012 Kompany header game and the Liverpool 2019 Sané winner game, where the atmospheres were fucking electric in the ground, and both just seem like nothing more than not-bad atmospheres on the footage.

I’ve been to Palace where the atmosphere is bobbins and 90% of the ground don’t flinch never mind sing. The away stand makes more noise than their mini section of band geeks half the time. Yet you’d think it was peak Legia Warszawa at Selhurst the way it comes across on tele and that away fans never sing. Brighton fans were noticeably turned down whenever they sung in their derby a few weeks ago.

It’s all to do with the way they operate the microphones.

One thing I don’t get is the disparity between our good and poor atmospheres. The gap between them is huge! We can be absolutely brilliant but we can also be absolutely woeful. Yet any given three points are almost all as important as all others come the final points total at the end of the season, every game matters when you want to win the league!

I wonder if we still have a bit of a legacy attitude and culture within our fanbase of when we weren’t one of the top sides where we think that only the big games are the ones to get excited about? Finishing in mid-table and playing other mid-table teams didn’t mean a great deal in mid-table; but wanting to finish first and playing any other of the 19 teams is important, and our atmospheres should reflect that more.
