Etihad Atmosphere - 2021/22

Stayed to the end on Wednesday and I was no where near as loud as I was on Sunday.
Sunday was great and to try and compare it to a dead rubber on Wednesday night is ridiculous. I personally thought the crowd attendance was very good all considering. But Sporting werent interested in try to win the game, City didnt need to go flat out. We have alot more important games coming up. There really wasnt much for us fans to get excited about on Wednesday.

Does everything have to serve a purpose ?

Young lads have an absolute party on the concourse because it’s fun. That’s what life’s about, not placating old moaners who have a bee in their bonnet about pre match displays being “ruined” (wtf) by a handful of empty seats.

Leave em to their fun while you get to your seat an hour before kick off to wave your rattle and have a moan about the music on the PA system or the early leavers or the wrong songs being sung or whatever
It’d be just as much fun in the stands. Plus others areas around the ground could also join in with them and build the atmosphere a bit.

Thanks for replying, my comment to you came across as more arsey than was intended and I know your post was meant to be constructive.

Im not convinced it would be more fun in the stands, the lack of beer and the open spaces take away from the more intense feel of concourse singing. And the deafening cheese over the tannoy has a big impact on pre match atmosphere

That’s alright mate, haha

Yeah there’s a lot of very loud cheese to drown out and you can’t have a pint in the seats (not a bad thing that imo as it’s a bit of a nightmare at the rugby with beer going over you and people constantly filing in-and-out to get more beer).

I’m just one of those picky twats who wants singing in the stands and i think concourse singing is bobbins. But then, I also don’t like City’s red+black striped kits and never rated Kinkladze that much so I don’t always have popular opinions.

A bit harsh. He has got very good points which you have missed. He’s old school which is a good thing. Get to your seats and get singing in the ground not on the concourse. The atmosphere is awful most of the time at home. The PA system is dreadful. I’m old school and come from a great bunch of singers called the Kippax who used to create an amazing atmosphere in the ground and there was no PA or stupid stadium announcer who likes the sound of his own voice.

They're not even watching the fucking game????

Fuck off the pre match displays. Fuck off the stadium announcers who shout down a microphone that’s 2 millimetres from their gob. Fuck it all off, then maybe the atmosphere would build naturally Full stop
Literally every single time city have put on a pre-match mini show the atmosphere has been noticeably better because of it. You can play the I'm too cool for this card all you want but the evidence is there that it helps pump up the crowd.

There's been plenty of times they haven't done anything beforehand and it never builds naturally as you claim unless we're playing someone like united or Liverpool.

So you don’t like the drop down banners from SSL2? You don’t like the large flags waved on SSL1 before kick off? You didn’t like the large ‘Not In My Lifetime’ banner behind the goal on derby day? You don’t like the City Ship going across SSL1, when it’s done? And you haven’t liked any of the whole stadium displays on the the big CL nights? Those displays don’t hinder the atmosphere they try with varying degrees of success to improve the atmosphere and spectacle before the matches start.

People like you, me, and many others (on BM) have constantly pleaded with the club over the years to kill the cheese, but they haven’t and won’t listen. The club employ staff to look at and to improve the match day experience. That is their job. So I have given up complaining and now accept that cheese is part and parcel of the match day experience.

Who’d have thought it, but I do enjoy the ‘Cheese DJ’ at the Etihad. As a rule, and especially at Wembley, I f*cking hate the cheese stuff, you know, ‘Rocking All Over The World‘, ‘We Are The Champions’, etc. But the DJ at City plays some good stuff with plenty of mixes, beats, and bass.

Can you smell that glorious Cheese and how it got the City fans going at the end of the derby? Yaya/Kolo after the final whistle.

However, I draw the line at ‘One Step Beyond’. Have a word with the Cheese DJ, please.

Feel that BASS as it kicks in! :-)

I can only remember one time the speakers weren't working so they didn't pipe in shite music and we actually built the atmosphere without the club telling us what to sing. It feels like organised fun most of the time which is cheesy as fuck. I much prefer the fan led pre match stuff

Me too. Fan culture and atmosphere (including banners) should be left to the fans 100%. Clubs shouldn’t have any input into it.

At the 2001 Manchester derby, the speakers broke and the atmosphere was phenomenal pre-game.

Always remember this one pre-game as a kid as being the best though…

Watch the first 6:30 up to the kick off. Neither set of fans needed any PA system music or shouting, or a lights show. Everyone in their seats early.
