I got a survey from the club today which asked about atmos and other things. As I said last night, I didn't think it was terrible.
We have got some work to do nonetheless. Don't let that one guy who joins with the SS sing alone. Back him up. When he runs out of puff sing the next line. We do need to bear in mind the positive effect a big atmosphere and a full house has on our wonderful boys and manager. That isn't on tourists - it's on us, the loyal and local who make up the overwhelming majority of the crowd and always have.
But then again, expecting English PL main stand home crowds to behave like Latin American Ultras in a slow, nervy game on a Wednesday night after work is not realistic. Yes, many of us could make more effort to come out of our shells, but last night wasn't the worst and the club could make a difference by doing some very simple things it can't/won't/is yet to do - ie give thought to acoustics, bring in more safe standing, not take the piss with ticket prices, bring in another singing section, lobby Metrolink to lay on more trams which might discourage some early leavers, recognise that the core of your fanbase isn't getting any younger and that you need to do more to make the game accessible to future generations of loyal and local.
Want more of a vocal fanbase? Do more to grow a more vocal fanbase. Won't happen while season tickets are dead men's shoes and matchday tickets are £70. Love Pep but at the end of the day he is a hands on figure at City. We all know the things people at the coalface of an organisation think are important and desirable are not necessarily what the strategic guys think are important and desirable.
