The Velodrome does seem a bit stuck out all alone and once the Academy, engorged stadium and collar site start flashing their pants, Asda appears to be ill placed now. Might be a bit of a struggle to knock down and rebuild given it's Grade II listed status though.

There was a rumour some time ago that the structure where Asda is currently housed would be retained and would continue to be used for retail. I don't know if it's viable for them in effect to build on top of it.

Re: Etihad Campus, Stadium Development and Collar Site (cont

Before ADUG bought City the plans that were still considered to be 'live' included several thousand houses on what is now that CFA site.

The Super Casino was the anchor tenant for the collar site (with City having some offices on there too) and the Holt Town area was to part of a redeveloped wedge of housing that was still very much an unfunded dream.

In all of those plans ASDA was a site that was neither needed in any grander scheme or considered to be anything troublesome for what was planned.

Its clear that everything changed and changed quite significantly and the idea that ASDA would remain is prtty ludicrous.

Over a year ago some of us on here even noted a few sites nearby that could house a store and we assumed that the Council would use CCO to achieve this.

I would also think that the small industrial units near to the Merc garage is also in City's sights too.

Whilst all of that is bing decided and the stadium is being expanded then surely the further reaches of the land already under ownership will be developed soonest? I know that the local futsal community are pretty excited.

It's not the Campus, stadium or collar site, but it does relate to plans to make East Manchester a centre of sporing excellence, in which the above play a vital role, and we did talk about it in the Vegas thread, so I feel justified in posting it here even though the site is a mile or two from our patch.

Anyway, it appears that things are moving with regard to the National Speedway Stadium - at least according to a story on the Belle Vue Aces official site. I've posted the text below but for those who prefer a link, here it is: http://www.bellevueaces.co/newsitem.aspx?id=1157

The key piece of information is that they expect to submit the planning application later this month.

NSS Plans Go Public

Belle Vue Speedway ...

Incidentally, generally reliable sources do seem to back up the notion that Asda will be moving in due course, though they'll continue to trade at the current site for the time being.
Do we have any sort of link with the Speedway proposal?

No direct link as far as I know.

I suspect that where we fit in is that a lot of the spare land which will be developed at and around the Etihad Campus is (or was) owned by MCC. In reports to the Council Exeuctive, it was stated that this land would be disposed of at market value to the MCFC/MCC joint venture company which is going to develop the land. That company is 80% owned by MCFC and I suspect that MCC has contributed land in return for its 20% shareholding in the JV. City presumably contirbuted money to enable the JV to fund various operations.

However, I suspect that there may have been cash adjustments made or additional land subsequently sold to the JV at cash to the Council. I'd speculate that this allows the Council to put in bits of money here and there to help other proposals in East Manchester to get off the ground.

Plus revenues from the gate receipts that were renegotiated a while back (approx. £4mpa if memory serves me correctly) allow the council to invest in sporting facilities. I presume that this falls into that remit despite the fact it isn't, strictly speaking, within the Sportcity complex.

Don't be surprised if there are other Sheik M. / MCC deals regarding land for development that are not necessarily under the MCFC umbrella.
The current construction and its impact on the area is probably factored into the potential for development throughout the east Manchester area completely.

Just a guess, but MCFC could very well be his starter for 10.

Yes, during the first seven seasons in the new stadium, we reportedly paid £12 million in 'rent'. That I believe was ring-fenced to be spent on sports facilities under the terms of Sport England's original funding and was applied towards the upkeep costs of the athletics arena and tennis/squash facilities. The reported £4 million per annum we now pay includes, I think, increased rent and the Council's share of the naming rights deal and obviously represents a significant increase.

This may well be true.

Also, there have been rumours that there could be Abu Dhabi investment in Manchester generally, outside the MCFC umbrella.

Another point is that there will be commercial (i.e. office) space as part of the collar site development and rumour has it that this could house a European HQ of a high-profile multinational company. If true, it's likely to be one with Abu Dhabi ownership or investment, one would presume.

Where (ish) are you hearing this from Petrusha? Stuff sprinkled on this thread (Abu Dhabi were at one stage rumoured to be purchasing City Tower in Piccadilly, though that doesn't seem to be the case anymore) or from less accessible grapevines?
I know there's a few rumours about the Chinese looking for 1million Sq Ft of offices in Manchester, so the more the merrier...

Not from this thread, save to the extent that it repeats stuff I've posted in the past. There have been one or two potential high-profile AD investments - most notably the airport - that haven't gone ahead for whatever reason, but I believe there could be a willingness for AD investors to get involved in other forthcoming Manc projects should the right opportunities present themselves.
