No,but saw Def Leopard there, must have been about 78

Gosh was it still open then? I thought the whole thing closed in the mid or even early 70's. Seems a bloody lifetime ago.
Saw the Clash there, must of been 77. They smashed the doors in and we ran in for free.
I was at the front of that queue!!!!
was getting crushed which is why they had to let everyone in

Siouxsie and the Banshees, and Magazine were the support, what a night

The Clash was '77 they played The Elizabethan Suite, Def Leppard was 78/79 at The Cumberland Suite where about 200 tried to cram into a space in front of the stage the size of a postage stamp. Enough space behind us to have a game of five-a-side. But it was still open in 85 as saw ACR and the Inca Babies their
If I remember rightly the stage for Def Leopard was only about a foot high, remember being pushed and ending up face down on the stage at one point.

Sorry mate that could have been my fault. Was stood on somebody's back at one point until I was bounced to the back again.

^^ Cheers. Sounds like a possibility if it was really required?

EDIT - can see it clearly on the map now. Do trains still run on this line??

https://www.google.com/maps/place/V...97,16z/data=!4m2!3m1!1s0x0:0xa98acd6bc64cc7eb

Yes, still used, Victoria-Leeds line.
Sorry misleading you there it could be defunct now.

There was a discussion on this thread some time back about that line. Can't remember it in detail now, but I'm sure the upshot was that it wouldn't be of use.

IIRC, only trains coming from Leeds (or was it Stockport?) direction would be able to go up the branch line to get to the Sportscity area. To add to the junction to allow trains to/from city centre direction would mean knocking down houses, businesses etc. Basically, a very big job for little gain.

It's a shame, but there you go. Hope this helped.

About a railway station, there was a station called Ashburys for Belle Vue as well as Belle Vue station. Not so sure how the lines are these days but I'm sure they were from Picadilly.

Stop mentioning Belle Vue, we'll get another 10 pages of nostalgia.
