Quick picture and video(Quinn is my Dog) update today.( went to the souvenir shop)
The back wall along the length of the South Stand is now complete. The next phase of the South Stand expansion has started. The supports for the new roof are being erected on the new 3rd tier.(pictures 3, 4, 5, and 6 showing grey supports) See the 5 screen grabs from the official South Stand expansion flythrough video under those pictures and you will see what I mean. For those who still haven't seen the official South Stand expansion flythrough video, it's under my video of the Etihad stadium, taken from the new bridge. :-)

I've got to say, it really is massive. :-? Most of you will see what I mean at the next home match.
It looks like a proper end, whereas before both ends where somewhat underwhelming. Walk to both ends of the Etihad and you will see the comparison and what I mean.
The height of the expanded South Stand will only increase with the addition of the air vents/grills and the roof itself. Compare the current height of the East Stand with the expanded South Stand, which still hasn't got the vents/grills and roof.
Photoshop isn't my strongest point.
Vent/grills and roof on the East Stand highlighted.

The size of the gap between existing roof and back of new stand is incredible and goes to show just how big its going to be.

Great update JRB.
Saturday sees the annual present delivery pilgrimage to Manchester so it will be the 1st time my wife and daughters have been in a year!
Reckon they will be staggered when they see it for themselves.

One thing your pictures give some impression of now, is how much bigger (in surface area) the south stand roof will be once completed, compared with the current one, and with it angled down, it should benefit atmosphere greatly. I hope the club get the seating plan right, I think quite a few of the noisier ones will relocate into the third tier, right under the roof.
