Its funny but the kippax looks small in that picture, but from the front, and back, it always looked huge, all down to the roof I guess.

[I'm guessing that was a derby, judging from the away section looking packed ?]
With those fences it would have to be after Heysel (pitch invasion v Charlton was a week or so before) and before Hillsborough (I'm pretty sure the fences were down in time for the 5-1 in '89 but in any event that was a glorious day) which means it could only be one of two Derbies (assuming it is a Derby).

85/86 & 86/87.

Fences were most definitely still up at the 5-1
You could very well be right, but as I've said that photo couldn't be at the 5-1 as it was a beautiful September day.

I'm 99% certain the fences were down for the 3-3 Derby the following season.

Wonder if the original cable net will create a slightly obstructed view in the higher seats.

One of the best photos I've seen of the Etihad. Courtesy of <a class="postlink" href="https://twitter.com/SkoobyBlueVDub" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;">https://twitter.com/SkoobyBlueVDub</a>

On the arial shots of the academy there are two squares that are still basically rubble. What are these going to be? Car parking?

One thing your pictures give some impression of now, is how much bigger (in surface area) the south stand roof will be once completed, compared with the current one, and with it angled down, it should benefit atmosphere greatly. I hope the club get the seating plan right, I think quite a few of the noisier ones will relocate into the third tier, right under the roof.
Completely agree with this cleavers.

Let's not forget the last stand we had with an angled-down roof:

That kept the sound in pretty well at times.

I wondered who hacked my computer and stole my photos!!!.....26th October 1986

Just a thought about the Kippax.

Were City the only major club to have their main singing\atmospheric section along the length of the pitch rather than behind the goal. i.e Trafford (Stretford End), Liverpool (The Kop), Newcastle (The Gallowgate end), Villa Park (The Holt End), Arsenal (The Clock End).

This in effect City probably had a bigger singing section than anyone else.
What was the capacity of the Kippax with standing only?

It sits above and still supports the roof structure providing they have got the angles right there should be no sight line obstructions
