It's definitely UK as you say - the adverts have been on the radio.
They are playing the Olympic Stadium / West Ham and Etihad / City.

Not sure if that makes any significant difference to much though - I'd imagine 1/3 of the stadium would be stage area anyway, and most likely they'd be facing the south stand.

I would guess 'the venue' makes about 500K and possibly a share of merchandise too, so anywhere between 500K to 1M, but I don't know if City see that money. I've always assumed that the council see the lion's share of it. Would be good to hear from an 'in the know'.

Regardless of that though, it's still good PR and exposure for City and Etihad (plus other sponsors).

Manchester Storm are looking for a longterm home and SportCity is aparently getting a permanent ice rink.

Do you know which bit of land will the ice rink go on?

Regardless of that though, it's still good PR and exposure for City and Etihad (plus other sponsors).

Yea that's how I see it. Some big hitters in June with the Roses, AC/DC and the lesser coldplay playing there in the space of 3 weeks or so

City get all of the money. Originally the council got a cut but we upped the base payment per year to £4m ish in order to keep all the venue money and sell the naming rights. I'd say £1m per concert is probably realistic given corporate prices for events like this and as you say merchandising. City's relationship with the City Council is highly beneficial to both parties and we're in a far better position than the scum, who own the swamp, but rarely are allowed to stage concerts by Trafford. Trafford see events like this primarily as a nuisance to local residents. MCC see them as a great money making opportunity given the money spent in the city centre (hotels, restaurants, pubs). In reality we are much better off playing in "the city" and not owning the stadium. This is the seventh concert so far planned for next Summer and it's only December.

Does the club pull in much money from these gigs?

It's not like we need the money, we've been back in black for quite some time now.

Was talking about Manchester Storm looking for a city central venue just last night - any idea where the sport city rumours came from?

Apparently the Take That series of concerts generated more Bar/Food profit than the whole of the football season. AC/DC, Coldplay and Stone Roses would expect the pumps to be drunk dry and us to make even more profit. Looks like we're on the regular summer venue circuit now.

Manchester Storm won't be looking for a new home anytime soon. They are owned by the owners of Silverblades who operate the ice rink in Altrincham. That rink will be refurbished as part of the impending Altair project. I'm led to believe it will get a new roof and reconfiguration but the true plans have yet to be completely revealed. Unless Silverblades were to take ownership of a new venue in East Manchester, there is no chance that Storm would be based there.

The other Manchester Ice Hockey Team, Manchester Phoenix, are looking for a new home. They play at a lower level to the Storm and are currently playing out of Deeside after a conflict with Silverblades. They are struggling badly with cashflow and i doubt they will make the end of the season never mind get back to Manchester in a new building.

A 3-4000 seater multi-configuration venue would be great for the campus but it would need a permanent tenant to work i.e an Ice Hockey or Basketball team to guarantee a weekly income. Smaller concerts could be put on there too but you'd be in direct competition with the Apollo for those
